Registration is Open for Next Citizens Police Academy

The application deadline is Aug. 30 to take part in this year's Hamilton Citizens Police Academy.

The Hamilton Police Department will be holding its third Citizens Police Academy starting in September. Applications are being taken now.

The Academy will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for 10 consecutive Tuesdays beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 24 and ending on Tuesday Nov. 26..

The Citizen Police Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operation and functions of the Police Department, Communications Center and Fire Department.

The classes will cover various topics such as Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Evidence collection, Domestic Violence, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Court Procedures and Use of Force.

In addition, participants will take part in a 3-hour police ride along and tour of the Middleton jail. The ride-along allows each student to observe police officers on patrol.

The courses will be taught by Hamilton police officers, police supervisors, Hamilton firefighters and dispatchers.

There is no charge to attend. Participants must be 18 years or older. The class is limited to 20 applicants and preference will be given to Hamilton residents.

Applications can be picked up at the Hamilton Police Department, 265 Bay Road or at the Town Clerk’s office at Hamilton Town Hall at 577 Bay Road.

Applications can also be downloaded on the Hamilton Police website, www.Hamiltonma.gov.

The deadline to submit an application is Friday Aug. 30.
