Fire Destroys Shed at Hamilton Home

A snowblower and lawnmower in the burned shed were destroyed.

A shed was destroyed by fire on Thursday afternoon at a home near Chebacco Lake.

The fire did not spread to any building besides the shed and nobody was injured, according to Hamilton Fire Chief Phil Stevens.

The resident at 246 Echo Cove Road called the Hamilton Fire Department at 4:16 p.m. to report the fire and then “kept it at bay with a garden hose until we got there,” Stevens said.

The 12 foot by 8 foot shed was destroyed, as were its contents, which included a lawnmower and snowblower. The fire only spread to some nearby grass and no other property was damaged, Stevens said.

“It was fairly close to the house,” Stevens said. “We got it knocked down pretty fast.”

The home is located near the end of Echo Cove Road, overlooking Chebacco Lake.

A total of 13 Hamilton firefighters and another four firefighters from Essex, who were automatically called beacause the neighborhood is so close to Essex, battled the blaze. The blaze was out and crews had picked up by 5:06 p.m.

The cause of the fire was deemed accidental, Stevens said.
