Canter Brook Owner Says Homes May Now Not be Planned

Redevelopment of Canter Brook Equestrian Center has been discussed for several years.

The owner of Canter Brook Equestrian Center in Hamilton says he no longer has plan to build single-family homes on the property.

Jerry Dawson had worked for two years to gain approval for a senior living complex. The needed permits were never issued and last month he moved forward with a plan that would drop the commercial use of the property and allow it to be subdivided under existing zoning, which allows one-acre single family lots. He had said he wanted six lots on the 13-acre property between Asbury and Highland streets.

Last week, though, he told the Boston Globe that he has “changed his mind” about the new homes.

“It’s not like I was asking them for house lots or anything like that,” the Globe quotes Dawson as saying when he went before the Zoning Board of Appeals to get a limit on further subdividing the property lifted. “I was just throwing it out there.”

Dawson said previously he abandoned the senior living plans because he did not feel there was enough demand for additional senior units in the area.
