Just One Candidate So Far for Two Hamilton Selectmen Seats

A look at who has pulled papers and is running for several of the open seats in local town government.

Nomination papers in Hamilton need to be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 with 40 certifiable signatures of Hamilton registered voters. In Wenham, the deadline is also Feb. 21 but is 5 p.m. for 20 certifiable signatures of Wenham registered voters. There are two open three year term on the board - the two new seats added three years ago after voters backed an overhaul of the town government that also involved replacing the town administrator position with a town manager. New Traffic Pattern to Be Used Around Wenham Town Hall Polling Location

A new traffic flow in and out of Wenham Town Hall will be used during voting on Tuesday.

A new traffic pattern will be unveiled around Wenham Town Hall for Election Day on Tuesday. Elections were moved from Buker Elementary School to Town Hall in Wenham last year and Tuesday will be the first election with expected high turnout to be held at the Town Hall. In a Connect-CTY message sent out on Monday afternoon, Town Administrator Mark Andrews said that Wenham Police would be directing traffic from Friend Court into the Town Hall parking lot. From the parking lot, all traffic will then exit onto Main Street on the driveway next to Wenham Museum. The “Do Not Exit” sign that typically greets driver headed out to Route 1A on the driveway from the Town Hall parking lot will not be in effect on Tuesday. “The goal is to prevent …

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

For the rest of the week, recycling and organics collection will happen on the regular day in Hamilton but there will be no trash pickup in the new black bins. Instead, only trash placed out in a blue bag will be picked up. Next week trash in the black bins, organics in the green bins and recycling in a labeled container will all be collected in Hamilton. Letter to the Editor: More Signs Could Have Redirected Voters at Buker

Wenham Town Clerk Trudy Reid thanks Town Hall and Wenham Museum employees for helping with parking on election day on Tuesday and says more signs could have gone up at Buker to redirect voters to the new polling place at Town Hall.

To the Editor: To all the Wenham voters that came out on Super Tuesday, thank you for your show of civic spirit! Wenham had 514 voters come out to vote, which is slightly less than 20 percent of the total number of registered voters. A good turnout for an early primary. To coordinate last year’s request from the schools for both towns to move the weekday ballot/voting elections out of the school buildings, this was the second time we utilized Town Hall as the polling site. The first time was for a town capital equipment funding vote, and this was our first local/state/federal election. Although Town Hall is somewhat “cozier” than the space we used at Buker, I’m very pleased with the cooperation from everyone who helped make it work for all…

Prep Work Continues for 2012 Polling Place Changes

Both Hamilton and Wenham ease closer to changing the location of its polling places in 2012 from the schools to town buildings.

It’s official – the new polling place for every election except Town Meeting in Wenham is Town Hall. And a similar move to change the polling place in underway in Hamilton. Both moves are being made after the School Committee last year requested both towns consider changing the poll locations from the schools – Wenham is now at Buker Elementary School and Hamilton at Winthrop Elementary School – so that school did not have to be cancelled on Election Day. On Tuesday, the Wenham Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 to officially move the polling place to Town Hall. As of now, the first election that would be held at the new polling places would be the presidential primary in spring 2012. Each household will be informed when the Town Meeting warrant…

It's unfortunate Hamilton considers the library and rec gym to far off the beaten path to be considered as a polling location. Using the community room and gym would give more space and there is plenty of parking. Plus it avoids all the congestion on 1A in the morning and late afternoon.   more ›
