Tisei Will Not Jump in to Special Senate Election

Richard Tisei had been considering a run for U.S. Senate after former Sen. Scott Brown declined to enter the race.

Former Massachusetts Senate minority leader Richard Tisei announced that he will not run in the special Senate election to fill the seat vacated by John Kerry. On Friday, after former Sen. Scott Brown announced that he will not run for the seat, all eyes turned to Tisei, who announced he was considering running. On Saturday evening, Tisei put a stop to that, citing bad timing and a desire to see others have a shot at the seat. "I've been humbled by so many people who've urged me to run for this seat, following Senator Scott Brown's decision not to run on Friday," Tisei wrote in a statement Saturday night. "I believe it's imperative that the Republican party put forward a strong candidate who can help bring much-needed change to Washington…

Tisei Weighing U.S. Senate Run

The former state senator's announcement came on Friday after Scott Brown said he would not run in the U.S. Senate race.

Former state Senate Republican Leader Richard Tisei says he is considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat recently vacated by John Kerry after the long-time senator was appointed Secretary of State earlier this week.  “In the coming days, I will be talking with family, friends, and supporters to consider the best role that I can play in helping to bring new, alternative leadership to Washington,” Tisei said in a statement released Friday. Tisei, who previously ran for lieutenant governor and Congress, said he was shocked to see Scott Brown announce he would not be running for the seat. "The news that Scott won't be running again came as a surprise to me, as to many others," Tisei said in the statement. "I've known him for many years and …

I really believe in light of John Tierneys re-election that the people really deserve what they vote for, The people deserve not to have ethical representation. Maybe Annie Dukain should run ? After 5 or 6 felony allegations, why not ? This is Massachusetts home of loose change and the Hopeless. With Tierney, Markey and Lynch that's a winning combination to open up a Casino in every town ?   more ›

TELL US: What Should Tisei Do Next?

He narrowly lost the congressional race. What do you think his next move should be?

Former State Sen. Minority Leader Richard Tisei was seen to have a fighting chance -- and to some, a likely victory -- in the 2012 race for the 6th District congressional seat. But after the votes were counted, Tisei fell short and lost that race to incumbent Democratic Congressman John Tierney. Tisei did, however, win North Andover handily and amassed a wave of energized support across the district along the way. Tisei has decades of experience in politics, having served in the Massachusetts legislature for more than 25 years and serving as Senate minority leader before leaving his seat to run as Charlie Baker's gubernatorial running mate in 2010. The Baker/Tisei ticket failed to defeat incumbent Gov. Deval Patrick, but Tisei took the …

I think it's a bit rich that Kerstin should think that Tisei should fight for ethics in politics when his background is not exactly clean either. I guess your perspective depends on which party you support.   more ›

STILL STANDING: Tierney Defeats Tisei [VIDEO]

The battle for the 6th District seat is over.

Congressman John Tierney has defeated Republican challenger Richard Tisei in an extremely tight race for Massachusetts 6th District congressional seat. This has been an unusually high-profile congressional race in Massachusetts, which is considered a stronghold for House Democrats. Tierney suffered from the impact of a family scandal involving his wife, her brother and her brother’s illegal offshore gambling business. Tisei, on the other hand, climbed to popularity with his aggressive campaign, his theme of bipartisanship and his years of serving in the state legislature. He out-raised Tierney in campaign donations every quarter. Tisei made Tierney’s family legal scandal a focus of the campaign, calling Tierney’s credibility into question…

I used to live in Massachusetts, and I know how idiotic the voters there are--they keep voting in the same slimy, paid off criminals year after year. I hope you enjoy all the higher taxes, higher unemployment, higher energy costs, inflation and misery coming everyone's way now that you dumb democrats have reelected an inept, progressive, socialist liberal president hell bent on making "everyone …   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Congressional Race is About Issues and Not Tierney's Wife

The chairman of U.S. Rep. John Tierney's campaign finance committee, Barry Weiner of Essex, writes in support of Tierney's reelection.

To the Editor: I first met John Tierney in 1995 when he asked if I would consider helping him in his run for Congress. I agreed and have chaired the finance committee for his successful campaigns since then. Over this time, I’ve consistently found John to be a bright, hardworking, honest fellow, and a passionate and effective representative for our district. Despite the power and glitter of the position, he’s also never changed, remaining the same down to earth guy from a modest, middleclass family. Given what I know about John it pains me to see him attacked, and so unfairly and savagely in this campaign. I say “unfair” because the assertion that John knew of the crimes of his brothers in law and his wife’s “willful blindness” is just not…

Barbara: Hold the President accountable along with Joe Biden and Panetta for our Sovereign soil, attacked in Libya. Letter to the Editor: John Tierney is Not a Thief, Not a Liar and Not a Criminal

Hamilton attorney Jeffrey Scuteri writes in support of Congressman John Tierney for reelection.

To the Editor: You may not like Congressman John Tierney’s vision for our country’s future or his stance on certain issues. You may not like that he stands with President Obama.  These are all valid reasons not to vote for John Tierney. However, the one reason that should not prevent you from voting for John Tierney is his character. John is not a thief. John is not a liar and John is not a criminal. John is a man of integrity and honesty and the people of the Sixth District who have watched him over 16 years know this. When late in life John got married he unfortunately took on two felonious brothers-in-law. After they were convicted for tax evasion from the running of an illegal gambling ring, federal probation required that a business …

Whether you like Obama or not, we are going to get hit hard with Obama Care Cost, once he is or if Obama is re-elected. And if we have Warren, Obama, Tierney, within ten years all of us will be in the poor house together as the government through the health care mandate will have electronic access to withdraw from personel bank accounts. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=HcBaSP31Be8&vg=medium   more ›

TELL US: What is Deciding Your Vote for Congress?

There are many issues in the 6th District congressional race. Which one is the big factor for you?

The election is less than two weeks away. In the Massachusetts Sixth District, voters will decide who their next congressman will be. Incumbent Democrat John Tierney is in an intense race against Republican challenger Richard Tisei and Libertarian Daniel Fishman. The campaign has gained national attention. Legal drama involving Tierney's inlaws, Tierney campaign talk of Tisei having radical right-wing connections, and the emergence of Fishman's outside-the-box third party effort have made the race eventful, to say the least. All this, in the midst of a federal budget crisis, Medicare, student loans, abortion, high unemployment and more. We want to know what issue is the biggest deciding factor in your vote in the 6th District race. Discuss…

Libertarian Candidate Files Complaint Against WCVB

Libertarian Congressional candidate Daniel Fishman has been left out of a debate, and he's not backing down.

Libertarian Congressional candidate Daniel Fishman has filed a complaint against WCVB with the Federal Elections Commission. WCVB is planning a 6th District congressional candidates' debate on Thursday, and Fishman was not invited because he did not meet their criteria: A candidate must have a certain number of staff members, a daily campaign schedule, communicate on a regular basis with news media, garner at least 10 percent in two recent independent polls and have campaign contributions of at least $50,000. The debate will include U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-Salem) and Republican challenger Richard Tisei, the two major party candidates seeking the seat in the Sixth Congressional District, which includes Hamilton and Wenham.  Fishman's …
