Today is Monday, Feb. 13. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Normal: After an overhyped and underperforming “snowstorm” on Saturday and a chilly Sunday, things return to “normal” on Monday - weatherwise. The skies will be sunny and temperatures will be into the mid-30s with wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour. 2. Belay: School vacation week is next week and one great local activity is the La Vida Rock Gym at Gordon College. The wall will have special hours for vacation week. One way you can get a head start on the fun is for a parent to take a belay class ahead of time. Hughes to Remain as Regional Principal for Another Year

John Hughes will remain as the interim principal at the high school for one more year so the right candidate can be found to permanently fill the position.

John Hughes will remain as the interim principal at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School for one more year. Hughes, who retired last year as principal at Natick High School, took over an interim principal at the Regional to start the 2011-12 school year. “John has brought some stability,” said Interim School Superintendent Peter Gray. Gray announced to the School Committee when it met last Thursday that the school district received a waiver – since Hughes is retired from another Massachusetts school district - from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to allow Hughes to work another year. Gray said he made the announcement after hearing “issues, rumors and innuendos” about the future of the position. “It would be …

No Consensus from Search Committee on Gray as Permanent Superintendent

Interim Superintendent Peter Gray is hoping to become the permanent superintendent of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District and the superintendent search committee is working towards a recommendation to the School Committee.

A recommendation could come as soon as Sunday from the search committee charged with deciding whether or not to recommend that Peter Gray become the permanent Superintendent for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District. The 12-member Superintendent Search Committee – 10 of them were in attendance - spent nearly two hours questioning Gray on Thursday night, and then spent another hour discussing what they heard. He was questioned about everything from how he would work with the School Committee and his management style to his experience building a team and creating a strategic plan. Hamilton Police: The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission will award the Hamilton Police Department with accreditation at a ceremony on Thursday night at Andover Country Club. 3. Comcast: Bills have gone up this week for Comcast cable television subscribers in the two towns. For example, in Hamilton, “expanded basic” service went from $49.60 to $52.22 per month, effective Jan. 22. In Wenham, it went from $50.40 to $53.10. Spring: The sun should come out and temperatures will get close to 50 degrees on Tuesday – giving us a somewhat spring-like feel. 2. Sherlock Holmes: Open Road Theatre holds tryouts on Tuesday for its production of “Sherlock Holmes Goes to Hollywood” in conjunction with the Community House of Hamilton and Wenham. Faculty members are invited to interview Gray for the position of permanent school superintendent at 3 p.m. in the music/band room at Miles River Middle School. 2. Today is Tuesday, Jan. 3. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Cold: The first cold snap of the young winter is here. Some meteorologists are actually saying that the temperatures through Thursday will be the coldest temperatures we’ve seen in a full year. The forecasted high temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to remain below freezing each day, with it rising back above freezing on Thursday with sunny skies through the entire stretch. 2.
