Summer Series to Return to Park

The Sunday concert series at Patton Park, which has been going on for more than a decade, returns to Patton Park this week.

The summer concert series at Patton Park will return again this summer, kicking off this Sunday. The Sundays in Patton Park series has been happening for more than a decade, organized by the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham and a core of volunteers. It gets started this coming weekend on Sunday, June 23 with Broadway in the Park, which features show tunes "performed by local talent." Each concert runs 5-7 p.m. at the bandstand at the park and are free. Organizers suggest that audience members bring a lawnchair or blanket and pack a picnic dinner to enjoy in Patton Park. In the case of rain, concerts are typically moved indoors to the Community House. The concert series continues through Aug. 4 with a range of music styles. Some of the …

The 5th annual block party at the Community House has been pushed back from Friday night to Saturday afternoon because of the weather forecast.

Friday night’s “Nacho Average” block party has been postponed by 19 hours because of the threat of rain. The party, hosted by the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham, was originally scheduled for 5-8 p.m. on Friday at both the Community House and at Patton Park. It will now happen on Saturday from noon-3 p.m., according to Carolyn Blaney, marketing and sales manager for the Community House. 100 Years Ago on Tuesday, a Hamilton-Wenham Institution was Born

It was exactly 100 years ago on Tuesday that the then-Hamiltom Mother's Club was founded.

Tuesday marks the 100th birthday of the Hamilton Mothers’ Club. The club was originally chartered on May 28, 1913 in Hamilton. The Hamilton-Wenham Mothers’ Club provides activities for mothers and children every month as well as free weekly playgroups. Not only are activities and playgroups organized by the club but also larger events such as the Fast Chicks 5K, which was started last year. It is a 5K race/walk for active women on the North Shore.  In the first year, the club reported 225 runners and raised $6,000 for the Friends of Patton Park organization in Hamilton. Playground Work About to Begin

The new playground at Patton Park is about to be installed.

The backhoe is there. Some of the equipment has been delivered. And the day has just about arrived. Work is about to get underway to install the new playground at Patton Park. "We should see movement as soon as tomorrow," Town Manager Michael Lombardo told the Board of Selectmen on Monday night. An effort to raise the money for the project has been underway for about two years, with everything from a kids fun run to a buy-a-brick campaign. During the winter, the Friends of Patton Park group reached its $150,000 fundraising goal. Initially, a March groundbreaking had been planned. But this week Lombardo said work will occur during the next few weeks. He encouraged parents to make sure children stay away from the construction area, the …

Man Taken Away in Helicopter After Impalement

A man suffered serious injuries from an impalement and had to be taken away in a medical helicopter that landed at Patton Park on Monday afternoon.

A man had to be taken away in a medical helicopter after his arm was impaled by a pole on Monday afternoon. Hamilton Fire Chief Phil Stevens said the call was to a home on Moynihan Road where the pole “went up through his arm.” The person, who was not identified, was doing work on his own home, Stevens said, and it was not a contractor that was injured. He was taken by ambulance to Patton Park, where the medical helicopter landed. The man who was taken in the helicopter was the only person injured, Stevens said. Anytime a person suffers serious trauma a helicopter is called, Stevens said. In recent years, MedFlight has been called to the park for a painter who fell off a ladder and a person involved in a serious waterskiing accident, for …

It sets a deadline of Tuesday for companies to submit proposals to offer the equipment for the project. Opinions Sought on Future of Patton Park Pool

The Patton Park Pool Committee is reaching out to the public in its quest to hear what residents want with the pool at the park.

The committee that has been formed to examine the future of the pool at Patton Park is seeking public feedback and has scheduled public forums for later this month. As part of its charge, the committee is seeking information from the public about the possible renovation or replacement of the "aquatic facility" at the park. Hamilton Town Manager Michael Lombardo has said that he is looking at what it will cost to keep the pool open this summer, but the committee is taking a look at the pool's future for years to come. The pool is 51 years old. The committee plans two public forums where it will ask attendees what they feel is important in a new facility. Both public forums will be held in the meeting room at Hamilton-Wenham Library on …

Getting businesses to sponser the pool is a great idea, maybe someone of the pool committee could look into that? Right now, their are only two men who work for the town that have the proper licenses regarding the pool, how would that be handled? They are Paul Rigol and Jeff Mazzetta. Paul is the park supervisor and Jeff's with the water dept.   more ›
