Tourism: The North of Boston Visitors and Convention Bureau, which includes Hamilton and Wenham, is going to Beacon Hill on Wednesday for Tourism Day at the State House. The goal of the day, which falls during International Tourism Week, is to foster awareness of Massachusetts’ third largest industry. 3. Today is Thursday, Jan. 17. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Sun: The sun is forecasted to return on Thursday, with temperatures getting up to about 40 degrees. There will be a light west wind. 2. PMC: “Alumni” of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge have been able to register for the 2013 ride for the past few weeks. On Thursday, it is a chance for newcomers to sign up for this summer’s bicycle ride across the state, with rides up to 190 miles over one or two days. Today is Thursday, Jan. 3. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Freezing: Thursday morning is expected to be the coldest start to the day in a year, with temperatures not forecasted to even get all that high during the day. The sky will be sunny, the high temperature will be in the mid-20s and the wind chill will be as low as -5 degrees. 2. Sky Watch: The Quadrantid meteor shower peaks in the early morning hours of Jan. 4. Your next chance to spot a meteor is to look north (and a little east) and find the Big Dipper (Ursa Major) then look farther north (which would be roughly "up" if the Big Dipper were holding liquid). Today is Friday, Aug. 3. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Pan-Mass: Thousands of bicyclists – including 35 from Hamilton and Wenham - will take to the roads this weekend to raise money for cancer research as part of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge. In all, 5,500 cyclists and more than 3,000 volunteers take part in the event on 11 different routes on both Saturday and Sunday. 2. Gail Huff: The wife of Sen. Scott Brown, and former WCVB reporter Gail Huff will be the special guest at the Republican Town Committee’s “Politics and Polo” event at Myopia Hunt Club on Sunday. Huff will speak at about 2:30 p.m. and state Rep. Brad Hill, state Senator Bruce Tarr and Congressional candidate Richard Tisei are all expected to be in attendance…

Nearly Three Dozen Local Riders to Take on Pan-Mass. Challenge

Next month's Pan-Massachusetts Challenge will include 35 riders from Hamilton and Wenham.

Thirty five residents from Hamilton and Wenham will be among 5,500 cyclists in this year’s 33rd annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge on Aug. 4 and 5. The Pan-Mass Challenge is a charity bike-a-thon that raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. The riders have a collective goal of raising $36 million to support adult and pediatric cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. A complete list of local riders can be found below, with the eGiftID number needed to make a gift toward their fundraising goal. This year’s PMC riders range in age from 13 to 88 and range in skill from seasoned tri-athletes to “weekend warriors” that have having trained specifically for the PMC. …

Here's a look back at the top five stories in the past week in Hamilton and Wenham. Special Town Meeting in Hamilton Averted: The Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee endorsed a $500,000 so-called “giveback” unanimously on Thursday night, a budget number equal to what Hamilton Town Meeting voters supported in May. That meant that a Special Town Meeting scheduled for Monday night was no longer needed and the 2012 school budget was approved. Wenham War Memorial: The War Memorial Committee and Town Hall-Police Station Building Committee met together on Thursday morning at the urging of the Board of Selectmen in hopes of having the two group work together to come up with a design for the memorial. Hamilton Cancer Survivor Honored at Fenway Park

Hamilton's Mary Morin was one of 32 cancer survivors who was honored at Fenway Park last weekend in advance of the Pan-Mass Challenge later this summer.

Molly Morin of Hamilton was among 32 cancer survivors and Pan-Massachusetts Challenge cyclists who were honored by the Boston Red Sox last Saturday during PMC Day at Fenway Park. Morin rode her bike around the warning track in a pre-game ceremony during which the PMC’s 32nd anniversary logo was unveiled on the Green Monster. On Aug. 6 and 7, together with 5,000 cyclists, Morin will ride up to 190 miles across Massachusetts in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge bike-a-thon.
