Two Town 4th: Are you an artisian that wants to be involved in the “Two Town 4th” celebration on Independence Day this year? Wednesday is the “early bird” deadline for a discounted rate for a space at the annual event at Patton Park. The special $25 rate for a 100 square foot space ends on Wednesday. Open Burning Season Has Begun, Permits Now Available

The open burning season began on Monday. Find out how to get a permit.

Open burning season started on Monday and runs through May 1. In Hamilton, permits are available in person at the fire station. In Wenham, there are two ways to get a burning permit. Residents can stop by the Wenham fire station between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday or on Saturdays from 8-10 a.m. to get a permit. Permits are now available online, too, on the Fire Department’s website. To get a permit online, a valid credit card and email address are needed and applicants need to agree to the terms and conditions of the open burning regulations. Today is Tuesday, May 1. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Wenham Water Ban: The annual summer water ban in Wenham begins on May 1, restricting residents from using sprinklers between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. - hand watering is still allowed. The Wenham Water Commissioners are meeting on Tuesday night to officially vote on the ban, according to Water Superintendent Erik Mansfield. Additionally, the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force is meeting on May 3 to evaluate all regions across the state because of the lack of rain this year. The task force may end up imposing other requirements. 2. Open Burning: The statewide open burning season comes to an end on Tuesday. Each year it runs from Jan. 15 to May 1. 3. Today is Monday, Jan. 16. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Cold: The cold snap continues on Monday. After a very cold start, temperatures should get to about freezing but wind chills – with gusts of 10-15 miles per hours – could make it feel closer to zero. 2. Martin Luther King Jr: Martin Luther King Jr. would be 83 years old today on what is a federal holiday that bears his name. Open Burning Begins Sunday, Permits Available Now in Both Towns

The open burning season begins on Sunday and permits are now being issued by fire officials in both Hamilton and Wenham.

Open burning season begins on Sunday and fire permits are now available in both Hamilton and Wenham. In Hamilton, permits are available only in person and in Wenham permits are available both online and in person. A copy of the permit is available online (and attached to this story as a PDF) and can be filled out ahead of time. The online permit is a few years old and applicants should note that the current fee is $20, not $10. The fee for senior citizens who burn at their own home is currently $10. The only way to get a burning permit in Hamilton is to go in person to the emergency communications center at the Hamilton Public Safety building on Bay Road.
