Middle School Students Honored for Improved Performance, Drama Success

The latest Outstanding Accomplishment certificates at Miles River Middle School have gone to Celia Cronan and Drew Willis.

Miles River Middle School students Celia Cronan and Drew Willis have been recognized for their success with an Outstanding Accomplishment certificate from the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club. Cronan received the award for Excellence in the Performing Arts and Willis for Most Improved Academically. The awards were presented to the students at a recent Rotary meeting at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham. “I have enjoyed Celia in my eigth grade drama class, as well as in the drama festival after school," Cronan's teacher said in presenting the award. "She is a creative and thoughtful individual who takes risks with her work and is an asset to our class. She has been such a positive addition to whatever it is we have done.” “Drew is in my …

Today is Thursday, April 25. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Clearing: The sky is expected to clear through the day on Thursday, with temperatures in the 60s. The morning will be cloudy with a slight chance of a rain shower and the wind will blow all day, with gusts up to 25 miles per hour. 2. Drill: A Critical Incident Drill is scheduled to happen at Miles River Middle School and Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School on Thursday. Just as schools conduct fire drills, these drills prepare teachers, staff and students for a “lock down.” The drills are being conducted in all of the district schools as part of a review and update of the Crisis Response Plan. Regardless, Wednesday will be a much nicer day than Tuesday. It is forecasted to start out with the chance of a shower and some clouds but will clear-up later. 2. Arts Night: Students at Miles River Middle School will show off their artistic talent at Arts Night on Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the school. Baker Recognized for Sportsmanship, Anyanwu for Citizenship

Two middle river students have been recognized for their success.

Ozi Anyanwu and Joselinne Baker, both Miles River Middle School students, have been awarded Outstanding Accomplishment certificates by the Hamilton- Wenham Rotary Club. Anyanwu, in the 8th grade, received his award for Citizenship and Baker, a 6th grader, was recognized for Sportsmanship. The awards were given out at the Rotary's weekly breakfast meeting on April 4 at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham. Anyanwu teacher wrote: "I nominated Ozi because in addition to being an excellent student, he is a wonderful person. Ozi (arrived) as a new student last year and has enriched the MRMS community. Mastrocola and Thissell Latest to be Recognized at Middle School

Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club awarded its two latest outstanding accomplishment certificates to Miles River Middle School students at its meeting last Friday.

The Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club has awarded its two latest outstanding accomplishment certificates to Miles River Middle School students Gabby Mastrocola and Amy Thissell. Mastrocola, an eighth grader, received her award for Academic Excellence and Thissell, a seventh grader, was recognized for Citizenship at the Rotary’s weekly Friday breakfast meeting on March 1 at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham. Mastrocola’s teacher wrote: “Gabby is a really good kid from my vantage point. Good student; asks appropriate, relevant questions; has a positive attitude and is dependable. Her Civics assignments are always well done and carefully thought out. Her hard work and steady efforts shine through in her high quality work.” Thissell’s teacher …

UPDATED: Chinese Visitors Will Not Visit Middle School Friday

The middle school was scheduled to host Chinese visitors on Friday.

Miles River Middle School was slated to be a host to visitors from China on Friday, according to the blog on Jan. 25 from Principal John Driscoll. But on Thursday night, Driscoll said in a Connect-Ed message that the group would not be visiting Hamilton. "Unfortunately, we received some news that the group of students from China planning to tour our school tomorrow had a last minute change in plans and will not be able to visit - hopefully a different opportunity will arise," Driscoll said. The plan has been for 25 students from three middle schools in Shanghai, China to tour classes at Miles River, Driscoll wrote. Huang and Ward First Repeat Rotary Award Winners

The two January winners of Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club's outstanding accomplishments award won as 6th graders and have won again as 8th graders.

The Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club's outstanding accomplishment certificates in January went to the same two Miles River Middle School students for the first time ever. Lucy Huang and Josh Ward both received the award at the Jan. 11 weekly Friday breakfast meeting of the club. It was the first time in the three year history of this project that there were repeat winners. Two years earlier as 6th grade students, Huang won an Outstanding Achievement Certificate for Academic Excellence and Josh Ward for Leadership. Now as 8thgrade students, they both received their certificates for Citizenship. The state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development will release town-by-town unemployment data for December. Gourdeau, Lynch Honored for Middle School Citizenship, Leadership

Two Miles River Middle School students have been recognized for their leadership and citizenship accomplishments.

The Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club has awarded its Outstanding Accomplishment certificates to two Miles River Middle School students - Jack Gourdeau and Alexis Lynch. Gourdeau received his award for Citizenship and Lynch was recognized for Leadership. The awad was handed out on Dec. 14 at the club's weekly Friday breakfast meeting at the Community House of Hamilton and Wenham. Gourdeau’s teacher wrote: “Jack is an outstanding young man. He constantly demonstrates outstanding citizenship in civics class and beyond. It's been a pleasure working with Jack this year. The following message was sent to parents on Friday by Miles River Middle School Principal John Driscoll. It is printed here unedited and in its entirety. Miles River parents and guardians, As the reports of the tragic events that are unfolding in Newtown, CT continue to come in, please note a few important pieces of information. As a precaution, we ensured building safety and security and were in direct contact with the Hamilton PD.
