Monday is the biggest day of the season, to date, for Generals sports teams with three important tournament match-ups.
Monday is a big day for three Generals spring sports teams – boys’ lacrosse, girls’ tennis and boys’ tennis. All three teams have state tournaments match-ups on Monday afternoon that - with a win - will move them closer to a state title. The boys’ lacrosse team (11-5, 9-4 CAL) is in the quarterfinals of the East Div. 3 tournament. The Generals, the No. 5 seed, play No. 4 North Reading (18-2, 8-2 CAL) at North Reading High School at 2:30 p.m. Both teams, even though they are both in the Cape Ann League, have not played each other this spring. The teams share five common opponents. Both teams defeated Ipswich, Swampscott, Triton and Wilmington. The Generals defeated Newburyport 16-9 while the Hornets lost to the Clippers, 17-5. The week in news in Hamilton and Wenham includes the demolition of the former Hansbury lumberyard building, an introduction of the two finalists to become the high school principal and the class of 2011 graduation.
The week in review in Hamilton-Wenham news, May 30-June 5. 1. Hansbury building is torn down The main building on the so-called Hansbury property in downtown Hamilton was torn down on Thursday. The property has been eyed for redevelopment by town leaders in recent years and last fall Town Meeting voters approved creating an overlay zoning district along Willow Street, and includes the property, to allow some additional mixed uses. The property’s new owner said the building would need major work to be able to be used again and would not be part of any development plans, which still have not been announced. 2. Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Class of 2011 Graduates The 172 graduates of Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School graduated …

The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School girls' tennis team heads to the MIAA Div. 3 North Sectional Girls' Tennis Quarterfinals against Bishop Fenwick after defeating Lowell Catholic on Saturday.
On paper, ninth seeded Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School's 5-0 victory over the eighth seeded Crusaders of Lowell Catholic might have seemed like an upset, but don't tell that to Claudia Hawkes. For the second year girls' tennis coach, the Generals' victory on Saturday at Callery Park in Lowell was something she expected out of the team. "I think in reality the seedings were a little out of whack," said Hawkes, who believed that despite the seeding difference, her squad had been forged by stronger opponents in the Cape Ann League. "We were ready for this match today, and the girls did very well. I'm excited we've gotten past the first round." With the year already an improvement over their 2010 first round defeat at the hands of …
