Incoming School Superintendent Hopes to Build Relationships, Restore Trust

Dr. Michael Harvey will start as the new superintendent of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District on July 1.

There’s high expectations for students in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District – much as there is in Belmont. And that was a draw for the new superintendent, Dr. Michael Harvey, who is currently the principal at Belmont High School. Harvey will start July 1. He was selected from a field of four finalists for the job earlier this month in an unanimous vote by the School Committee. He will take over for Interim Superintendent Peter Gray, who served in that position since May 2011. He will go back to being an assistant superintendent. The district's most recent permanent superintendent was Dr. Raleigh Buchanan, who left the district after less than a year after reaching a "mutual agreement" with the School Committee. “The reputation …

Incoming Superintendent Leads No. 4 Ranked High School in Mass., 111th in U.S.

U.S. News and World Report on Tuesday ranked Belmont High School - where the top choice to become the new Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District superintendent is now principal - as the No. 4 high school in the state.

Belmont High School – where likely Hamilton-Wenham school superintendent to-be Michael Harvey is now principal – has been ranked No. 4 in the state by U.S. News and World Report. The 2012 edition of the rankings were released on Tuesday. Belmont High School was No. 111 nationally in the rankings, which earned it a gold medal from the magazine. Harvey, an Ipswich resident, has been principal at the school since 2006. Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School was not listed in the top 64 high schools in the state and was not given a ranking by the magazine. Harvey’s leadership at the school was repeatedly cited by the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee on Monday night as it voted to make an offer to give the superintendent job to Harvey. …

Belmont Principal Will Be 'Excellent Fit' As Next School Superintendent

The Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee unanimously chose to offer the job as the next superintendent of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District to current principal at Belmont High School on Monday night.

Michael Harvey, currently the principal at Belmont High School, was the unanimous pick to become the next Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District superintendent on Monday night. School Committee Chairman Alexa McCloughan notified Harvey in a cell phone call minutes after the 7:36 p.m. vote. “He is very excited,” McCloughan said. It took the committee only about 35 minutes to go around and have each member outline their support for Harvey. Bill Dery was the only committee member to pick another candidate – Susan Givens. Dery said that Givens has the financial skills and experience with a regional school district at the Masconomet Regional School District that is needed for Hamilton-Wenham. Superintendent Candidates to Get Workplace Visits on Wednesday, Next Week

Five member teams from the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Districts will visit the current school district or workplace of the four finalists to become the next school superintendent.

They’ve come here. Now Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District leaders will go there. Five person teams of School Committee members and Superintendent Search Committee members will spend a few hours touring the home school districts and workplaces of the four finalists to become the next Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District superintendent. “The plan is to visit each site for about three hours,” said Dacia Rubel, the School Committee member who is working with consultant Tony Bent to arrange all the visits. The first visits are planned for Wednesday. Rain: It has been nearly two months since we have seen as much rain as is expected to fall in the rainstorm on Sunday through Monday. About 2 inches of rain is forecasted to fall by Monday morning.
