One Incumbent Reelected, Another Ousted in Town Elections

One member of the Hamilton Board of Selectmen was reelected on Thursday and the chairman of the Wenham Board of Selectmen was defeated in the town elections.

Marc Johnson will be returning to the Hamilton Board of Selectmen for another term while in Wenham, Molly Martins will not. Jack Wilhelm defeated Molly Martins in the race for a three-year term on the Wenham Board of Selectmen. Wilhelm received 578 votes to Martins' 267 votes. For the past three years, Martins has been the board's chairwoman. In Hamilton, Scott Maddern was also elected to the Board of Selectmen. He currently serves on the Finance Advisory Committee. Maddern and Johnson will serve three-year terms on the five member board. Maddern received 568 votes and Johnson received 515 votes. Jack Hauck received 237 votes and Bill Dery received 195 votes and neither were elected to the board. Three new members were also elected to the …

Threat of Winter Storm Postpones Tuesday's MCAS Tests

Due to the expected winter storm on Tuesday, the state announced that the MCAS English Language Arts Composition test for students in grades 4, 7 and 10 has been postponed until Monday, March 25.

The MCAS English Language Arts Composition test for students in grades 4, 7 and 10 originally planned for Tuesday has been postponed until Monday, March 25, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education announced Monday on its website. The decision was made because much of Massachusetts - including Hamilton and Wenham - is expecting a winter storm on Tuesday, and with it the possibility of numerous school closings or delayed openings. In an effort to make sure all schools administer the test on the same day, "all schools must administer the ELA Composition test to students in grades 4, 7, and 10 on Monday, March 25, including schools that are not affected by the weather," according to a memo from Elizabeth Davis, …

It should be cool, though, with a high temperature in the mid-30s. 2. Kindergarten: Parents who have enrolled their child in kindergarten next year in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District have an information session scheduled for Monday night.  It runs 7-8 p.m. at Buker Elementary School. 3. With Friday's Snowday, When Will School End This Year?

Friday was the third snowday of the year for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District.

The last day of school this year will be Tuesday, June 18 for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District, according to Superintendent Dr. Michael Harvey.  That is the last day of school after Friday's snow day cancellation. The School Committee will need to vote to officially set this date, likely in early April, Harvey said. Graduation will still be held as scheduled on June 2, Harvey said. The state requires that graduation be scheduled within 12 school days from the last day of school without cancellation days, which was Thursday, June 13. Even if cancellation days are added at the end of the year, the school district does not need to change the graduation date, Harvey said. That policy is set by state Department of Education …
