Motorcycle Allegedly Speeding Before Friday Crash

The motorcycle involved in a serious crash on Friday night in Hamilton was allegedly speeding.

A motorcycle that crashed head-on into a convertible on Route 1A on Friday evening was allegedly speeding before the crash, according to Hamilton police. Friday night’s crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Moulton Street when a motorcycle headed southbound crossed the yellow line and struck an Audi headed northbound. The motorcycle driver, John McLaughlin, 52, of Swampscott was seriously injured. After the crash, he was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital and loaded into a MedFlight helicopter and taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He suffered a serious leg injury. Man Taken to Hospital in Helicopter After Serious Motorcycle Crash

A portion of Route 1A was closed on Friday evening after a serious crash involving a car and motorcycle.

Two motorcycle riders were injured - one seriously - after a crash on Bay Road on Friday evening. The man who was driving the motorcycle was taken away from the crash in an Lyons Ambulance, where he was taken away in a Boston MedFlight helicopter from Beverly Hospital. The female on the back of the motorcycle was less seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital. The driver of the black Audi convertible involved in the crash, a female, was not injured, said Hamilton Police Sgt. Stephen Trepanier, who is investigating the crash. Man to Return to Court After Allegedly Fleeing Hamilton Crash That Injured Woman

A Hamilton man is free on bail while after a car crash where he was allegedly driving and fled.

A Hamilton man accused of crashing a car into an utility pole and then fleeing the scene while the passenger remained injured in the car is scheduled to return to court on Thursday. The charges against Scott Argetes, 40, of 2 Lincoln Ave., Hamilton include leaving the scene of a property damage crash and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, marked lanes violation and no inspection sticker. The two most serious charges are misdemeanors punishable up to two years in jail. It happened back on April 18 at about 10:50 p.m. on Asbury Street near the intersection of Ricker Circle. Police Memorial Sunday to be Observed This Weekend

The Police Memorial Sunday will be observed at Hamilton Cemetery on Sunday.

Police Memorial Sunday will be observed this weekend in Hamilton. The Hamilton Police Relief Association is organizing the event as part of Police Memorial Week. The observance will happen on Sunday, May 19 at 9 a.m. at the Hamilton Police Memorial in the Hamilton Cemetery. The guest speaker will be state Sen. Bruce Tarr, (R-Gloucester), the Senate Minority Leader who represents Hamilton and Wenham. There will also be a reading of the necrology. Police Officers Memorial Day honors and remembers police officers who gave their lives while on duty and those who served the town of Hamilton, according to an announcement of the memorial. “We would like to ask for your attendance and observance,” said Hamilton Police Sgt. Stephen Trepanier.

Car, Purse Taken in Overnight Thefts

The theft of a car and purse happened overnight during the weekend in Hamilton.

A car and purse were taken overnight on Saturday night or Sunday morning from two homes in a Hamilton neighborhood. The thefts were reported on Homestead Circle on Sunday morning. At about 10 a.m., a resident reported that a pocket book and some miscellaneous items were taken from an unlocked car in the driveway. "All they want is cash," said Hamilton Police Sgt. Stephen Trepanier, who took the two reports, adding that thieves generally also go after items such as iPods and cell phones. The pocketbook was found in some bushes across the street on Sunday morning with much of its contents still in it. Police to 'Takeback' Expired, Unused or Unwanted Drugs Saturday

A drug takeback day will be held at the Hamilton and Wenham police stations on Saturday.

The Hamilton and Wenham police departments are working with the Drug Enforcement Administration on a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day that takes place on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is free and anonymous with no questions asked. “This is a great opportunity for those who have missed previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications,” according to an announcement from the Hamilton police.
