Five Things to Know on March 8: Last Day for Candidates to Withdraw

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Friday, March 8. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Snow: The snow will wrap up by early afternoon with temperatures in the mid-30s. Winds will really blow, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. 2. Withdraw: Friday is the final day to withdraw from the election if your name is on next month’s local ballot and you do not want it there. 3. Mini Golf: The Community House of Hamilton-Wenham has organized a trip for middle school students over to Monster Mini-Golf in Danvers on Friday night. It requires pre-registration but it may be worth checking to see if there are any last minute openings. The cost is $8. 4. Preservation Project: Friday is the deadline for submissions for the Massachusetts Preservation …

Just One Candidate So Far for Two Hamilton Selectmen Seats

A look at who has pulled papers and is running for several of the open seats in local town government.

There's just one candidate for two open seats on the five-member Hamilton Board of Selectmen with less than a week left before the deadline to run, according to information from Hamilton Town Clerk Jane Wetson. Nomination papers in Hamilton need to be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 with 40 certifiable signatures of Hamilton registered voters. In Wenham, the deadline is also Feb. 21 but is 5 p.m. for 20 certifiable signatures of Wenham registered voters. There are two open three year term on the board - the two new seats added three years ago after voters backed an overhaul of the town government that also involved replacing the town administrator position with a town manager. Where and When Do I Vote?

Find out where you vote on Tuesday and what time the polls are open in Hamilton and Wenham.

Tuesday is Election Day across the country. Here in Hamilton and Wenham, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in both towns. Voters in all three Hamilton precincts vote at the Winthrop Elementary School and all Wenham voters go to the polls at Wenham Town Hall. To take a look at what the ballot will look like, check here.

Letter to the Editor: 'Proud to Have Been Able to Serve'

Richard Boroff writes to thank those that voted for him in the recent election and says that the members of the School Committee have "major challenges" facing them.

To the Editor: Thank you to everyone who voted for me in the recent School Committee election. I am proud to have been able to serve on the committee. It has been a fascinating and challenging seven years but now it is time to move on. My best wishes to the members of the School Committee, old and new. You have major challenges facing you. You all have a desire to do what you think is best for the school district and for our children and grandchildren. The Week in Review looks back at the top five stories in Hamilton and Wenham in the past week – May 23-29. 1. Three Incumbents Defeated Thursday’s election in Hamilton knocked out three incumbents who were seeking reelection – Selectman Bill Bowler and School Committee members Richard Boroff and Tess Leary. Roger Kuebel, Bill Dery and Sean Condon were all elected to the nine member School Committee. Jeff Hubbard defeated Bill Bowler for one of the five Selectmen’s seats. Voters Choose New Hamilton Selectman, Three New School Committee Members

Jeff Hubbard was elected to the Hamilton Board of Selectmen and three new members were elected to the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee in voting on Thursday.

Jeff Hubbard is the newest member of the Hamilton Board of Selectmen. Hubbard defeated incumbent Bill Bowler 662-401 in voting on Thursday. The School Committee will be getting three new members, with the two incumbents seeking reelection being ousted. Roger Kuebel of Wenham topped the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee ticket with 1,397 votes combined from both towns. Also elected was Sean Condon with 1,040 votes and Bill Dery with 893 votes. Incumbent Tess Leary received 652 votes and incumbent Richard Boroff received 502 votes. Leary and Boroff were defeated. With the results of Hamilton’s election in, it means every incumbent seeking reelection to local office in a contested election was defeated this spring. Incumbent Harriet …

Hamilton Voters to Decide Selectmen, School Committee Races on Thursday

There are two contested races and a Proposition 2-1/2 debt exclusion override question on the Hamilton town election ballot on Thursday.

Hamilton voters will go to the polls on Thursday to choose a Selectman and three members of the School Committee. There’s also a question asking voters at approve a $2 million Proposition 2-1/2 debt exclusion override to pay to cap the closed landfill off Chebacco Road. Already, a significant majority of Town Meeting voters approved the landfill measure in a voice vote on May 14. Three positions on the School Committee are up for grabs. Incumbents Richard Boroff and Tess Leary face challengers Sean Condon, Bill Dery and Roger Kuebel. School Committee member Lauren Prior is not seeking reelection, so Thursday’s election will put at least one new member on the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee.
