ADD YOUR OWN: Six Signs That Spring Has Arrived in the Two Towns

There's already several signs that spring is here in Hamilton and Wenham. What are some signs you have seen of spring's arrival?

Tuesday was the first day of spring, and there has probably not been a start to spring in recent memory where it felt so much like spring.....err, summer. Below, find some of the signs we have seen locally that spring has arrived. What signs have you seen that spring has arrived? Let us know in the comments section. Ice Out: In some areas of New England, it is a wintertime tradition to run a contest to guess the “ice out” date. Two of the most famous locations are Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire and Joe’s Pond in Vermont.  It would have been tough to name a winner of that contest this winter using any local pond or lake, since the ice was hardly ever “in.” But Chebacco Lake, Pleasant Pond and Wenham Lake, among others, are now all …

Second Internally Lit Gas Sign Goes up in Downtown Hamilton

Downtown Hamilton is now home to two electronic signs to display gas prices.

Downtown Hamilton is getting its second internally lit gas station sign in the past six months installed this week. Workers on Monday began installing a new, more modern sign at Oliver Gulf, at the corner of Bay and Walnut roads that will include an electronic display for gas prices. In May, Hamilton Convenience installed an internally lit LED sign to display the price for a gallon of regular gasoline. It was the first electronic sign in what was otherwise a downtown dominated by mostly plain, externally lit signs. In early October, the Hamilton Zoning Board of Appeals granted a permit for the new Gulf sign. The plan was initially stalled when representatives for the gas station didn't show up at the first ZBA hearing. But after two …

Just for Fun: Where Do You Get Your Morning Coffee? [POLL]

Where's the place in the two towns you get coffee? Vote in our poll and they say why in the comments section. The voting closes on Friday morning.

Coffee is a key part of the morning routine for many people. And we know that making it at home – especially in the era of the K-cup – is a popular alternative to the coffee shop. But pretend your coffee maker isn't working, you're all out of coffee and you need a quick pick-me-up before heading off to work. Last winter, we asked you what your favorite hot beverage was in the two towns and now we want to know where you go to get it. Some of the popular shops include Dunkin Donuts, Grassy Roots and Henderson’s Café. There’s also the coffee at Wenham Tea House, Hamilton Convenience Store and seasonally at the Asbury Grove coffee shop. Did your favorite coffee shop not make the list? Just vote for "other" and let us know in the comments …

Internally Lit Gas Sign Goes Up in Hamilton

Hamilton Convenience Store on Monday installed the town's first LED sign to advertise gas prices after being granted a zoning variance last year.

Hamilton now has its first electronic sign advertising gas prices. The sign went up on Monday in front of Hamilton Convenience at 188 Bay Road. “It’s a digital sign so we can change it from inside,” store manager Jack Patel said on Monday. The station had used a pole with a suction cup at the end up reach up to the sign to change the gas prices. In seeking permission for the new sign, store management said that process was dangerous. Now the price can be changed electronically, Patel said. The manually adjusted sign on the ground will remain, he said. The other three gas stations in the two towns use manually adjusted signs. Patel said he didn’t know the exact cost to install the new sign, which was paid for by his supplier, Energy North, …
