An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.
Today is Friday, Aug. 10. Here are five things you need to know: 1. And there’s a slightly greater chance than Thursday of an afternoon thunderstorm on Friday - any time after 11 a.m. 2. Organics: As the temperatures rise again, we offer this reminder on how to avoid foul odors in your green organics bin - put your cooked food, meat and bones in paper bags in the freezer or fridge until pick-up day. Plus, spraying the mouth of the bin with vinegar water or Clorox water will help keep vermin from getting in there. 3. Story time: The crew from Up and People arrived in the two towns a …

Residents are reminded to keep straws out of the curbside organics collection.
Residents are being reminded to keep straws out of the compost. Gretel Clark of the Recycling Committee, who helped adopt the original curbside compost collection in the two towns, said that Brick Ends Farm – where the composting occurs - has seen that the organics that are collected curbside in Hamilton and Wenham is coming in with plastic straws in it. The new 13-gallon organics collection bins will be delivered to every household in Hamilton and Wenham this week.
The first of two new containers will be delivered to each home this week, three weeks before the start of the new trash and recycling program. Officials in Hamilton and Wenham both distributed notices last week, announcing the delivery of new 13 gallon organics collection bins and countertop bins. Wenham Town Administrator Jeff Chelgren made a Connect-CTY call to residents on Friday. “Within the kitchen collection container there will be flyers with additional information on the new organic waste program,” Chelgren said in his message. The information in the flyers can also be found online. Already, more than 500 homes in both towns were already participating in a first-in-the-state curbside composting program and had purchased one of the …

Ms Jenkins Thank you so much for your response. The delivery company left three bins at the bottom of the hill which is our shared driveway, these were not delivered to the addresses, as two of the three houses on the street have home office workers in them, myself among them, and I would have refused delivery. We may be unique in this respect, however I would like to get them back to the town …   more ›
