Five Things to Know on March 8: Last Day for Candidates to Withdraw

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Friday, March 8. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Snow: The snow will wrap up by early afternoon with temperatures in the mid-30s. Winds will really blow, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. 2. Withdraw: Friday is the final day to withdraw from the election if your name is on next month’s local ballot and you do not want it there. 3. Mini Golf: The Community House of Hamilton-Wenham has organized a trip for middle school students over to Monster Mini-Golf in Danvers on Friday night. It requires pre-registration but it may be worth checking to see if there are any last minute openings. The cost is $8. 4. Preservation Project: Friday is the deadline for submissions for the Massachusetts Preservation …

'Encore Show' Added for 'Sound of Music'

One more show has been added to the second weekend of performances for the Sound of Music at the Community House.

After selling out all of the “Sound of Music” performances this coming weekend, the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham has added an “encore show” on Sunday afternoon. The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon on the Community House’s Facebook page. The encore show is scheduled for Sunday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. It is in addition to two sold out shows on Saturday, and sold out show on Friday night and one earlier on Sunday afternoon. Three of the four performances last weekend sold out too, including a show that included a question and answer with Trapp family granddaughter Kristina. Advance ticket prices are $18 for adults, $13 for children with $2 extra per person for reserved seats. Advance ticket sales end on Friday morning. Tickets…

von Trapp Granddaughter to Visit Hamilton for 'Sound of Music' Show

One of the granddaughter's of the family that was the real-life inspiration for the "Sound of Music" will be available for questions and answer after a weekend show.

Kristina von Trapp, granddaughter of Maria and the Captain von Trapp, will be at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham on Saturday, March 2 for the 3 p.m. performance of the "Sound of Music." She will hold a question and answer session with the audience after the show. The "Sound of Music" was inspired by the real-life story of the von Trapp family, who now live in Vermont. Saturday's matinee is one of the several "Sound of Music" performances at the Community House during the next two weekends.

"The Sound of Music" will take the stage for two upcoming weekends at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham. Community House Theater will present the in-house production of Rogers & Hammerstein’s "The Sound of Music" on two weekends, March 1-3 and March 8-10. It is directed by award-winning, internationally renowned stage and film actress Myriam Cyr, choreographed by Ball Room World Champion Greg Warwick with musical direction by Bonnie Anderson, who is a past performer with the Boston Pops. This production "promises to delight audiences of every age," according to an announcement from the Community House. Students in the Community House's ski program said thank you this week at the end of the ski program.

The six week long afterschool Ski Bradford program run by the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham for grades 4-8 ended this past week. Students at Buker Elementary School, Cutler Elementary School and Miles River Middle School all made thank you with signs they made for the parents, shown above.

Today is Wednesday, Jan. 30. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Warm: Wednesday is forecasted to be a phenomenally warm day, with temperatures into the 50s. Unfortunately, the sky is expected to be cloudy and rainy. Winds will be gusty, especially later in the day. 2. Father-Daughter: The deadline to register for this Saturday’s Father-Daughter Winter Ball at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham is Wednesday. Last year it sold out. New Faces Join Leadership at the Community House

Four men have recently joined the board of the Community House of Hamilton and Wenham.

The Community House of Hamilton and Wenham recently welcomed four new member to its Board of Directors. The new members joined the 20 member board in November, according to the Community House's marketing director, Carolyn Blaney. Each of the newly appointed members have made a commitment to promote and support The Community House during his 3-year term and each expressed their eagerness to give back to both communities. The Community House Board meets 10 months out of the year and each member participates in one or more committees such as; executive, fundraising, building and grounds, finance, music, program and theater. The new members are: Dennis Cusick, a longtime resident of Hamilton. He and his wife, Loretta, have raised their two …

Carolers to Help Light Christmas Tree, Gazebo on Thursday Evening

The Christmas tree and gazebo in Hamilton will be lit on a Thursday night for the first time this year.

The gazebo at Patton Park and Christmas tree outside People's United Bank in Hamilton will both be lit on Thursday night with the help of Christmas carolers. And everyone is invited. The event is free and open to the public and starts at 6:30 p.m. There's two big changes this year - it has been moved from a Sunday night to a Thursday night and will include "Music Man" Brian Doser as the master of ceremonies. "It's different this year because we have Brian," said Peter Stewart, who will help lead everyone in Christmas carols. Stewart and Joe Scuderi will join Doser for a caroling sing-a-long at the Community House before moving on to the lighting of the gazebo and later the Christmas tree.
