When Does Roadside Leaf Pickup Happen?

A look at the schedule for leaf pickup in Hamilton and Wenham this fall.

Curbside and roadside leaf pickup in both Hamilton and Wenham will get underway in November. Roadside collection of loose leaves in Wenham will begin Nov. 5 with one to two passes on every street in the town. That will be followed by a bagged leaf pick-up in December - if needed. The Department of Public Works says it makes every effort to pass through each street twice, but due to the uncertainty of the weather it is not always possible. The DPW recommends residents check the town website for updates but the DPW cannot predict an exact day they will be on a certain street. The Wenham Department of Public Works will start the loose leaf pick-up on the west side of town with Maple Street at the Danvers town line, then continue down Maple …

Letter to the Editor: Thank You to Tree Recyclers

Hamilton-Wenham Green sends a thank you message to those that recycled more than 800 Christmas trees this holiday season.

To the Editor: Thanks to Hamilton and Wenham tree recyclers! Thanks to each and every one of you who hauled your Christmas trees to Pingree Park or asked your local Boy Scouts (Troop 28 in Wenham and Troop 35) to bring them to the recycling site. On Jan. 10, 823 trees were chipped and taken to Brick Ends Farm to be turned into compost. Dodge Tree handled the chipping and transport for free. Brick Ends will donate $1 per tree recycled to Hamilton-Wenham Green and Hamilton-Wenham Green will donate to the scouts for the transported trees. Thanks to Dodge Tree, Brick Ends Farm and every family that participated. Special thanks go to the Wenham DPW who hosted the drop off site and picked up curbside trees as possible, saving the towns …

Hamilton Farm Makes Locally-Grown Produce Easy

First Light Farm in Hamilton does community supported agriculture and is always looking for new drop-off spots.

Buying local sounds great, but regularly doing it can sometimes be difficult. However, a local farm is making it easier to support the local economy and enjoy fresh produce. Now in its fourth season, First Light Farm in Hamilton is a roughly seven-acre community-sponsored agriculture farm. People in the community and surrounding towns can purchase shares in the farm, entitling them to fresh, seasonal vegetables each week. The People Behind It Owner Mike Raymond runs the farm and has one other full time farmer on staff. Other people help out part time. Raymond hopes to bring on another worker full time and a few more part-time employees. He also takes on volunteers occasionally in exchange for vegetables. “It keeps everything moving,” …
