Winthrop Kids Club Donates Breakfast Food to Acord

The Winthrop School Kids Care Club recently made a donation to the Acord Food Pantry.

The Winthrop School Kids Care Club recently collected breakfast food for the Acord Food Pantry. Volunteers at the pantry will then use the donations to make up breakfast bags for distribution to Acord patrons. Club members are pictured above with their advisors Heidi Caccivio, Mark Williams and Jan Lee.

Five Things to Know on Nov. 28: Book Fair Begins

Today is Wednesday, Nov. 28. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Cloudy: Wednesday will be a cloudy day, with temperatures not forecasted to get much above 40 degrees. Plus, winds will gust to about 20 miles per hour. 2. Book Fair: Winthrop Elementary School's "All-Star" Scholastic Book Fair arrives on Wednesday. There will be student shopping during school hours on Thursday and Friday. The book fair will also be open to the public during the Holiday Boutique on Saturday from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. Proceeds from the book fair benefit the Winthrop school classrooms and library. 3. Early Release: As is the case on most Wednesday, the schools in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District get out early today. Elementary …

Where and When Do I Vote?

Find out where you vote on Tuesday and what time the polls are open in Hamilton and Wenham.

Tuesday is Election Day across the country. Here in Hamilton and Wenham, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in both towns. Voters in all three Hamilton precincts vote at the Winthrop Elementary School and all Wenham voters go to the polls at Wenham Town Hall. To take a look at what the ballot will look like, check here.

Voters to be Given Look at Roof Rot, Other Maintenance Issues Before Town Meeting

A walk-about is being hosted at Winthrop Elementary School at 8 a.m. on Satuady to show some of the maintenance issues in the school district.

A School Committee subcommittee is hosting a "walk-about” and slideshow inside Winthrop Elementary School one hour before Saturday morning’s Town Meeting in Hamilton. The intent of the event, put on by the Facilities Working Group stating at 8 a.m., is to show firsthand the damage from deferred maintenance at the school and help voters see the current condition of the school and other maintenance issues in the school district that would be corrected by the proposed $2.075 million bond that will first go before voters at the Hamilton Town Meeting. The presentation will include a look at the rot in the Winthrop roof, the Cutler Elementary School roof, a new fire suppression system at the Buker Elementary School and other proposed repairs. …

School Projects to go to First Vote at Saturday's Hamilton Town Meeting

Voters at Hamilton's Fall Town Meeting on Saturday will decide on whether to fund repairs to elementary school buildings.

Voters at two upcoming Town Meetings – starting this Saturday at 9 a.m. in Hamilton at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School – will decide whether to put $2 million in capital spending on the fall ballot. The Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee has assembled a $4 million plan to address physical deficiencies in the schools, starting with two bonds totaling $2.075 million for major repairs to elementary schools. The Massachusetts School Building Authority has accepted repair of the Cutler Elementary School roof into its Accelerated Repair Program, which could result in reimbursement of 43.3 percent of the cost of $575,000. Light Turnout Marks Primary With Few Contested Races

Winner Eileen Duff also topped the Democratic Party primary ballot in the only contetsed race in Thursday's primary in Hamilton and Wenham.

Voter turnout was below 10 percent in both Hamilton and Wenham for Thursday's primary election. Eileen Duff, the winner in the four candidate Democratic Party race for the Fifth District seat on the Governor's Council, topped the primary results in the only contested race in Thursday's primary in Hamilton and Wenham. She won in both the two towns and across the district. She will face Republican Maura L.P. Ciardiello in the November general election. In Wenham, Duff received 28 votes. David W. Eppley had 20 votes, Donald Bumiller 14 votes and George T. O’Brine received 4 votes. Duff got 76 votes in Hamilton, besting second place finisher Eppley with 26 votes. Bumiller received 18 votes in Hamilton and O'Brien had 4. The complete results …
