Five Things to Know on May 23: Rovers Will Go Head-to-Head at High School

Today is Thursday, May 23. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. 70s, again: The forecast was for us to reach the 70s on Wednesday, but it sure never felt that warm around here. That’s the forecast again for Thursday, with a foggy start, a cloudy day with a chance of a shower or thundershower in the afternoon. 2. Rover Night: The annual Rover competition at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School is Thursday night. The event, which is free and open to the public, showcases the final creation of teams of physics students that have rovers go head-to-head to collect balls off the floor. It happens from 6-8 p.m. in the gym and will also include a collection for Acord Food Pantry and a raffle with prizes that include …

Five Things to Know on Jan. 24: The History of 300 at Main

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Thursday, Jan. 24. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham 1. Teens: Thursday will again will a very cold day, with the high temperature again forecasted to stay under 20 degrees. The sky will again be sunny and the wind will blow from the northwest with gusts up to 32 miles per hour. The windchills could be as low as -13 degrees. 2. 300 Main: You’ll have a chance to hear more about the history of 300 Main St. in Wenham on Thursday at the Wenham Senior Center. The program starts at 11 a.m. and is free. It will be followed by lunch for $3. Hauck will talk about the historic building at the 300 at Main plaza off Route 1A on the Hamilton town line. 3. Five Things to Know on Oct. 25: Wenham History

Today is Thursday, Oct. 25. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. More Sun: Thursday will be a perfect fall day, with sunny skies and the temperature getting up to around 60 degrees. 2. First Aid: If you want to take a first aid class at the Community House this weekend, Thursday is the final day to sign up. The class is on Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for a fee of $50. The class is taught by Registered nurses Regina Baker and Sheryl Razney includes a certification card valid for two years. 3. Today is Thursday, Sept. 27. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Biker Poetry: K. Peddlar Bridges is a “Biker Poet” who will be featured in a program at Hamilton-Wenham Library on Thursday evening. The program runs from 7-8 p.m. and is billed as being about “stories, poems and memories from the days when Hot Rods, Custom Cars and Stock Cars were the rulers of the road and our dreams were wrapped in sheet metal and chrome and our music was Rock n' Roll and duel exhaust." 2. The latest "Then and Now" historical photo feature shows the area of Route 1A in Wenham known as "Pond Hill." Both the “old” photo and the “new” photo are attached to this story. The photo, looking south, was taken taken on Nov. 13, 1891. Wenham Lake is off to the right in the photo. There's a new historical photo posted every Tuesday. Historical Photo Showed Wenham's First Fire Engine

Here is the answer to our latest "Then and Now" historical photo contest.

The latest "Then and Now" historical photo feature shows the members of the Wenham Fire Department in front of its then-Main Street station on April 2, 1891. Both the “old” photo and the “new” photo are attached to this story. The department was posing with its hand-pumped named “Enon #1” in front of the station, which was called the Enon Building. The location of the current day Fire Department is just off to the right of the photo. As Tom Luxton points out, while there is a former fire station on Main Street that is now home to Viola Lovely, you will notice it is not the same building that was there is 1891.
