'Quiz Show' Title Comes Home to Hamilton-Wenham for Second Straight Year

The Hamilton-Wenham team won the High School Quiz Show on Sunday for the second straight year in an episode that aired on Sunday night on WGBH-TV.

The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School College Bowl team has successfully defended its 2011 State Championship title on High School Quiz Show, winning the 2012 High School Quiz Show State Championship on Sunday. The Championship match against Arlington High School aired on Sunday on WGBH-TV channel 2. Not only was the result the same as last year, so was the opponent. Last year, the two high school teams faced each other in the show’s Eastern Massachusetts finals. On the way to the championship, Hamilton-Wenham also beat Sharon High School for the second straight year. Other opponents includes Cape Ann rival Rockport, a game that went into overtime. Regional Team to Face Arlington Again in 'Quiz Show' Finals

The finals of High School Quiz Show, that airs this weekend on WGBH-TV channel 2, will be a rematch of last year, featuring Hamilton-Wenham versus Arlington.

The state finals of High School Quiz Show – which will air this coming weekend – will be a rematch of last year’s finals. The College Bowl team from Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School will face the team from Arlington High School.  The show will air on WGBH-TV channel 2 at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 20. Last year, after winning High School Quiz Show, the Regional team advanced to face Mt. Greylock Regional High School, which won a similar game called “As Schools Match Wits,” which airs on WGBH sister-station WGBY in Western Massachusetts. The Regional team defeated the Mt. Greylock team. This year, the High School Quiz Show championship serves at the statewide championship since the game was opened up to schools all across the state. …

Last Chance: Deadlines You Need to Know This Week

An opportunity to try out for a summer production at the Community House is coming up.

Welcome to Last Chance, a regular Monday feature that will provide a list of upcoming deadlines that you may want to know about.  We’ll feature the latest deadlines to take a class, join a bus trip to Foxwoods or register to vote. Here is a list of important dates that Hamilton and Wenham residents will want to know this week. Community House Theater Auditions: Next week, there will be two auditions for the upcoming production of “Hot Mikado.” The auditions will be held Monday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 11 from 7-9 p.m. at the Community House. Auditions are open to adults and students in grades 7-12. The production is a hilarious 1940s-style update of a Gilbert and Sullivan favorite that features an intoxicating mix of styles and …

College Bowl Team Advances on 'Quiz Show,' Defeats Sharon for Second Time in 2 Years

The high school College Bowl team won its first round match and moves on to face Brookline in a match that will air in April.

Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School defeated Sharon High School, 530-195, in a "High School Quiz Show" first-round match, which aired on WGBH-TV on Sunday night. It was the first appearance on the show in 2012 for the Generals’ College Bowl team after winning the show’s championship in 2011. The Hamilton-Wenham team returns to the air to face Brookline in an episode that will air on April 8 at 6 p.m. The state championship episode of the Emmy-Award winning fast-paced academic game show airs May 20. Sunday night's episode was a rematch of last season's Eastern Mass. semi-finals, which Hamilton-Wenham won, 295-210. The Generals fell behind early, trailing 180-120 after the opening toss-up round, where each correct answer earns 10 points, …

Today is Friday, Feb. 10. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Snow: By this time last year, believe it or not, the seemingly endless snowstorms had come to an end. That’s right, after Feb. 12, there were no more major snowstorms last winter. But this year, we are looking at possibly one of the “biggest” snowstorms of the year on Saturday, with the possibly for a few inches of snow. 2. Girl Scout Cookies: We’ve received word that the Girl Scout cookie truck arrived in Hamilton and Wenham this week. Local Girl Scouts sold 737 cases of cookies this year - the most popular was Thin Mints. Local Scouts sold 241 cases of Thin Mints. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature in the mid-30s. 2. Patton Advisory Committee: Friday is the final day for Hamilton residents to express their interest in being named to the Patton Family Gift Advisory Committee. There are three open at-large spots on the committee and as of earlier this week there were eight residents who were interested. We really need to address the costs of sports. Even our younger sports teams pay more than most North Shore towns. Then when they reach high school, sports are no longer part of the standard educational program and parent pay for that too. That is why SOS has refocused on educational quality. Audience Tickets Available to Cheer on Regional Team on 'Quiz Show'

The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School College Bowl team begins its quest on Saturday to defend its title on "High School Quiz Show" with a live taping at the WGBH-TV studios in Brighton.

You will be able to cheer on the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School College Bowl team as it returns to defend its crown in a first round matchup on High School Quiz Show this weekend. The Generals will face the Sharon High School team in a show taping on Saturday morning at the WGBH-TV studios in Brighton. WGBH has free tickets available to join the live studio audience. Although the show will be taped at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, all members of the audience will be sworn to secrecy about the match results and will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement. The episode will air on Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. on WGBH-TV, channel 2. The show airs each Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and airs again at 6 p.m. the following Saturday. The only requirement is …
