What if I Missed the Regular Recycling Pickup This Week?

Trash and recycling pickup went on as scheduled this week, even though Veterans Day on Monday was a holiday.

Typically when there is a holiday on a Monday, trash pickup is delayed by a day. But this week, trash pickup happened as usual, starting on Monday in Wenham and moving on to Hamilton on Wednesday. That was despite the town-issued trash calendar in Hamilton that said pickup would be delayed by a day this week. "There was a mix up," said Allison Jenkins, administrative assistant to the Hamilton Department of Public Works. The solution, she said, will be that for any residents who normally have trash pickup on Wednesday, the town's trash contractor, Hiltz Disposal, will pick up Wednesday and Thursday. And again, anyone with pickup typically on Thursday, Hiltz will pick up on Thursday and Friday. For those with Friday pickup, Hiltz will pick …

And what about the Wenham residents that thought they too were on the holiday schedule? Is Hiltz going to circle back to Wenham to get the trash that wasn't picked up because of the confusion?? Shameful that there's been two incidents regarding trash pickup lately, that if the proper word had gotten out on time, or towns would just stick to the policy in place, we wouldn't have all this confusion.   more ›

When and Where are Veterans Day Ceremonies in the Two Towns?

Veterans Day activities will happen on Sunday, Nov. 11 in both Hamilton and Wenham.

Activities are planned in both Hamilton and Wenham on Sunday to honor veterans on Veterans Day on Sunday. Hamilton In Hamilton, it will start at 8 a.m. with coffee at A.P. Gardner American Legion Post 194 at 8 a.m. followed by breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The parade forms at Hamilton Town Hall at 10:15 a.m. and the silent march to Hamilton Cemetery is at 10:30 At 11 a.m. at the cemetery there is a moment of silence followed by a flag raising. Then Taps is played followed by the rifle squad firing three volleys 11:15 a.m. Everyone will return to Town Hall Wenham In Wenham, the ceremonies starts on Sunday, Nov. 11 at Cheeseman Field at Pingree Park at 10:15 a.m. with a wreath laying and short remarks, calling the roll of Wenham Veterans KIA. PHOTOS: 'We Have Your Back For Having Ours'

Veterans Day observances on Friday included a wreath laying ceremony at Cheeseman Field in Wenham and a silent march and service at Hamilton Cemetery.

Veterans and town officials in both Hamilton and Wenham honored veterans in separate observances on Veterans Day on Friday. At Cheeseman Field in Pingree Park in Wenham, a wreath was laid in memory of Alan Cheeseman, the only Wenham resident killed in Vietnam. "Let us remember they left their families and did whatever they were assigned," Col. Stuart Corning said at the prayer. In Hamilton, veterans were honored in an observance at Hamilton Cemetery after marching up Route 1A from Hamilton Town Hall. Silvia Riley Collins offered a poem and Selectman Jeff Stinson addressed the crowd, encouraging people to thank a veteran. "We have your back for having ours," Stinson said about veterans.

Veterans Day: Friday is Veterans Day, which means schools, government offices and some banks are closed in honor of those who have served the United States in the Armed Forces. There will be no mail delivery. There will be veterans’ observances in both towns on Friday morning. 3. Hamilton landfill: The Hamilton landfill will be open to residents again on Saturday for another chance to get rid of the brush from last month’s rain and snow storm. Friday Morning Veterans Day Observances Planned in Both Towns

Veterans Day observances are planned for Friday morning in both Hamilton and Wenham, including a ceremony on the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Wenham and a ceremony at Hamilton Ceremony.

Veterans will be honored in both Hamilton and Wenham in observances on Veterans Day on Friday. Both events continue long standing Veterans Day traditions. Beginning in Hamilton, a breakfast event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the American Legion. There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at Cheeseman Field at Pingree Park in Wenham at 10:15 a.m. Then, on the other end of town at 10:40 a.m. a group will form at Grapevine Road and Hull Street and march up Grapevine Road to a 11 a.m. ceremony on the Veterans Memorial Bridge that carries Grapevine Road over Route 128. The guest speaker will be Maj. Andrew Beckwith, a Boston based attorney and Wenham resident who is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, according to Don Luxton, commander of the Wenham …
