Wenham Man: 'Oh my Gosh' as Manhunt Unfolds Overnight on Twitter

A Wenham man recounts watching live updates from Watertown come across Twitter in the early morning hours of Friday.

It was all too real for Wenham resident Tyson Goodridge early Friday morning when he saw a tweeted photo showing a hole in a wall and chair in a Watertown home. Goodridge, who calls himself a “social media evangelist,” said he first started tracking Thursday night’s activities when he heard about the shooting of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer on the Cambridge campus. Later that night – into early Friday morning – the search for the men authorities said were responsible for Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon became very real on Twitter. “It was just ‘oh my gosh,’” Goodridge said after seeing a tweet from someone who lived near the area where several dozen shots and explosions were heard in Watertown. “That is …

Swartz Becomes Newest School Committee Member

Larry Swartz was appointed Thursday night to a seat on the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee.

Larry Swartz was approved Thursday night to become the newest member of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee. The eight member committee and the three members of the Wenham Board of Selectmen appointed Swartz in a narrow 6-5 vote in a combined meeting at Buker Elementary School on Thursday night. Swartz got the backing of School Committee members Sean Condon, Bill Dery and Roger Kuebel and Board of Wenham Selectmen Chairman Molly Martins and plus board members John Clemenzi and Patrick Wilson. The other top candidate, Harriet Davis, received five votes from School Committee members Kym Donnellan, Alexa McCloughan, Anne Minois, Jack O'Keefe and Dacia Rubel. The third candidate, Tyson Goodridge, did not get any votes. The 11 …

Wow, Patch had this news posted within hours of the appointment. The story does not cover the lengthy discussion that followed the appointment of whether Mr. Swartz should be granted a waiver that would allow him as an appointed official to vote on all matters before the School Committee including those that might directly or indirectly affect his wife's position. That waiver was granted in an 8 …   more ›

Newest School Committee Member To Be Picked Thursday Night

The members of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee and Wenham Board of Selectmen will choose who will fill the empty seat on the School Committee until next year's election.

One of three Wenham residents will be picked on Thursday night to fill an opening to become the ninth member of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee. The existing eight members of the School Committee and three members of the Wenham Board of Selectmen will each have a vote to decide which Wenham resident fills the position – Harriet Davis, Tyson Goodridge or Larry Swartz. Both boards will meet at 7 p.m. at Buker Elementary School. The opening came about after 19-year School Committee veteran Don Gallant resigned last month. Since Gallant lives in Wenham, the regional school agreement calls for the open position to be filled by a resident of the same town. All three made their pitch on Monday night to the several of people who will…

Two Former Selectmen Among Candidates to Fill Open School Committee Seat

The School Committee and Wenham Board of Selectmen will decide next week who will fill an empty seat on the School Committee until next May's election.

Two former Selectmen and a Wenham parent are the three candidates Wenham Selectmen and School Committee members will have to choose from to fill an empty School Committee seat. Harriet Davis, Tyson Goodridge and Larry Swartz are the three residents who submitted their name to fill the vacany left when Don Gallant resigned last month. The Committee’s bylaws require that since Gallant is from Wenham the vacancy must be filled by a Wenham resident. Davis was a Wenham selectmen who was defeated by Patrick Wilson in last year’s election. Goodridge is a parent with two boys in the school system. Swartz is a former selectman who served as chairman. Voters will decide who fills the position at the polls next May, but the person chosen next week …
