The Generals quarterback that led the team to an undefeated regular season in 2011 and the school's first-ever Super Bowl appearance will play college ball at Bates.
Another Generals gridiron star is headed to the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Boston Herald blog "High School Insider" reported on Monday that senior quarterback Trevor Lyons will play at Bates College, a NESCAC Div. 3 school. Lyons led the Generals to a Northeastern Conference/Cape Ann League Tier 4 title in 2011 and took the undefeated team to the Div. 3A Super Bowl - school's first-ever appearance in the big game. While Lyons was knocked out of the Super Bowl game with a shoulder injury and Hamilton-Wenham fell to Bourne, Lyons came back this season to set the school record with 15 touchdown passes in a season. The Generals football team's week two opponent, Pentucket, lost its opener by two points.
Last week, the Pentucket High School football team lost to a bigger Marblehead team by two points. This week it faces a similar foe from Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School. And if last year is any indication, it might not come down to two missed two-point conversions. Elliot Burr and Trevor Lyons combined for 200 yards in a 27-14 road win over the Sachems in 2010.
