Tornado Watch Issued for Friday Evening

The National Weather Service's tornado watch will be in effect until 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Hamilton and Wenham and all of Essex County. The watch, issued at 3:30 p.m. Friday, will be in effect until 9 p.m. for communities in Essex, Middlesex, Barnstable, Norfolk, Worcester, Bristol, Plymouth, Dukes, Natucket and Suffolk counties, according to weather. The watch means that conditions are favorable for the formation of a tornado but that no tornado has been spotted. A Hazardous Weather Outlook was issued earlier in the day. Downpours and damaging winds are expected.

Strong Thunderstorms Possible Tuesday Night

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for late Tuesday afternoon and evening for Hamilton and Wenham.

Conditions are favorable for strong thunderstorms in Hamilton and Wenham, plus a large portion of southern New England on Tuesday afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement.  "The best chance for strong thunderstorms in Southern New England will occur after 5 p.m., with the greatest confidence coming after 8 p.m.," the statement said.  Some of the thunderstorms may be severe, resulting in large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall.  Residents are advised to stay indoors and off of the roads as much as possibly during a storm. As an indication of the weather headed eastward, the National Weather Service at 12:30 p.m. issued a tornado watch for Berkshire County in western Massachusetts that …

Tornado Watch in Effect Wednesday Afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Wednesday afternoon that runs until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the East Coast between 1 and 8 p.m. today. The watch area stretches from southeastern Pennsylvania to Maine. There is a chance of tornadoes, hail of up to two inches in diameter, thunderstorms, wind gusts up to 70 mph and lightning. The weather service said a tornado watch means conditions “are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen to later statements for possible warnings.”
