Stirred Up Iron Caused Friday's Water Issue in Hamilton
An unauthorized testing of the high school's sprinkler system caused Hamilton's water to turn brown on Friday.
An unauthorized sprinkler system test at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School on Friday morning caused some iron sediment to stir up in the town's water system. Residents were notified of this test via a town-wide phone message alert. “Basically, when a test like this is conducted, it draws upon a lot of water quickly, which stirs up sediment in the pipes,” said John Tomasz, director of the Hamilton Department of Public Works. Tomasz said things were back to normal on Monday as the DPW had flushed the water lines by 2 p.m. on Friday in different locations throughout town, mostly along Bay Road and Essex Street and some of the neighboring side streets.
