With Friday's Snowday, When Will School End This Year?

Friday was the third snowday of the year for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District.

The last day of school this year will be Tuesday, June 18 for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District, according to Superintendent Dr. Michael Harvey.  That is the last day of school after Friday's snow day cancellation. The School Committee will need to vote to officially set this date, likely in early April, Harvey said. Graduation will still be held as scheduled on June 2, Harvey said. The state requires that graduation be scheduled within 12 school days from the last day of school without cancellation days, which was Thursday, June 13. Even if cancellation days are added at the end of the year, the school district does not need to change the graduation date, Harvey said. That policy is set by state Department of Education …

How Was Your Trip to School on Monday?

Let us know how things went on Monday as Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District was one of only a few districts with school on Monday.

The decision to hold school on Monday in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District elicited quite a bit of consternation on Sunday night by users of Hamilton-Wenham Patch. They were concerned for safety, citing unplowed sidewalks and bus stops, narrow roads and reduced sightlines from large snowbanks. Many other North Shore school districts - but not all - canceled school on Monday. Surrounding school districts including Beverly, Danvers, Ipswich and Manchester-Essex all canceled on Monday but were slated to return on Tuesday. How did things go for you? Tell us in the comments. Did you get to school OK? Was your bus stops cleared out? Was the sidewalk near school clear? Did the bus come on time? Did you find a spot in the school parking…

It's Official - Regional Schools to Open on Monday

School Superintendent Dr. Michael Harvey announced on Sunday evening that schools would definitely open as usual on Monday.

Streets, bus stops and the school grounds have all been plowed after the weekend blizzard and Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District schools will open on Monday, according to School Superintendent Dr. Michael Harvey. Hamilton-Wenham Patch reported earlier on Sunday that the plowing and snow removal was on track for schools to open. But at about 8 p.m. on Sunday, Harvey said in a Connect-CTY e-mail and phone message that schools would definitely be open on Monday. The school district’s bus contractor, Salter Bus Company, said it does not “anticipate any major difficulty in completing their bus runs in the morning,” he said. The Department of Public Works from both Hamilton and Wenham “have concluded their major snow removal operations,” …

I agree with you....but on the other hand I would say it isn't fair for the kids. They are the only school on the whole north shore that has to go to school tomorrow. Why shouldn't they get an extra day like everyone else who gets to go sledding tomorrow?   more ›

Snow Removal 'On Schedule' to Open Schools on Monday

Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District schools are likely to open on Monday, but a final decision has yet to be made.

Snow removal at the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District schools is on track to have all five schools open on Monday, according to Superintendent Dr. Michael Harvey. "We are on schedule with our cleaning activities to be open tomorrow," Harvey told Hamilton-Wenham Patch at about 1 p.m. on Sunday. Later, Harvey added that he is waiting to make a final decision until he hears from the Hamilton Department of Public Works and Wenham Highway Department about the progress of snow removal on side streets and around bus stops. Some North Shore schools have announced they will be closed on Monday, including public schools in Peabody, Marblehead, Salem and Swampscott. But none of the school districts immediately bordering the two towns, …
