An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.
Today is Monday, Oct. 29. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Hurricane: Clearly the big news on Monday is the arrival of Hurricane Sandy. Stay tuned to Danvers Patch as we keep you updated throughout the storm. 2. Closed: Many government offices are closed on Monday including Hamilton and Wenham town halls and the library, in addition to the regional schools. A state of emergency was declared and Gov. Deval Patrick who on Sunday encouraged everyone to stay home and off the roads, if possible. 3. Hydrants: The Wenham Water Department was scheduled to start flushing hydrants on Monday. While the arrival of Hurricane Sandy may push that back, it will happen during the day for the next three weeks from 8 a.m. to 2…

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.
Today is Thursday, Feb. 2. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Groundhog Day: Yes, Groundhog Day is a rather funny, classic Bill Murray film. But it’s also an actual day - today. Punxsutawney Phil will come out of his little hole down in Pennsylvania this morning and decide whether winter is over or not. Remember, if Phil sees his shadow winter will last for six more weeks, while if he doesn’t see his shadow winter will be over soon. 2. Super Bowl: We’re four days away from the big game in Indianapolis. And there’s signs of enthusiastic support for the Patriots emerging in both towns. Stop and take a look – Connolly’s Pharmacy has set up an impressive Patriots-themed display in its front window on Bay Road. 3. Babies and Books: The …

In this week's poll question on Hamilton-Wenham Patch's Facebook page, respondents said that bank buyouts have affected their banking decisions.
Some local residents have moved their money as a result of bank buyouts, according to respondents in Hamilton-Wenham Patch’s unscientific Facebook poll. Each Tuesday, Patch posts a local poll question and on Thursday we bring you the results. This week, with the recent sale of Danversbank to Connecticut-based People’s United Bank – plus the town of Hamilton’s decision to move money from Danversbank to Salem Five – we asked if it was affected your banking decisions. While the poll drew very few votes, every respondent said that they have made a move as a result of being unhappy about bank buyouts. Check back on Hamilton-Wenham Patch and our Facebook page next Tuesday for another poll question. In addition, keep your eye on various future …
