It is kind of ridiculous -I'm looking in my kitchen wastebasket -thinking "Oh No -there's styrofoam in there'. Worrying about getting busted by the trash police. Now I have to worry that I'm not going to be able to find the bags to buy. It seems like life is easier in Wenham..   more ›

What is Single Stream Recycling and How Does it Work with the New Trash Program?

Town officials in Hamilton and Wenham explain single stream recycling, which is one of the changes that is coming with the new trash, recycling and organics collection program that begins on April 2.

The following was submitted by Hamilton Town Manager Michael Lombardo, Wenham Town Administrator Jeff Chelgren and Sue Patrolia, sustainability coordinator for Hamilton and Wenham. It is part 2 of 3 in a series of articles in advance of the new trash, recycling and organics program, which begins on April 2. Starting the first week of April, residents of Hamilton and Wenham will be able to take advantage of new trash and recycling services. The change from every other week separated recycling to weekly single stream recycling is welcome because more items can be recycled, more often and they all go in the same bin or barrel. Every household will be receiving a new barrel for trash, specialized for automated collection, so the old one can be…

Why isn't aseptic packaging listed? It was my understanding because these packages were lined with foil, they could not be recycled just as the foil drink pouches are not recyclable. The information provided needs to be consistent from website, to booklet, to articles. The booklet is a novelette, the website contains different info than the booklet, and then new information is provided here. …   more ›

Idlewood Park is a sliver of town owned land that contains the granite stairs that complete the popular walking loop of Lake Dr, Pleasant, Monument, Main St, and Arbor/Highland. Residents of Hamilton and Wenham would be adversely affected if it were sold to a private party. Please support the effort to keep Idlewood Park publicly owned and accessible.   more ›

New Organics Containers to be Delivered This Week

The new 13-gallon organics collection bins will be delivered to every household in Hamilton and Wenham this week.

The first of two new containers will be delivered to each home this week, three weeks before the start of the new trash and recycling program. Officials in Hamilton and Wenham both distributed notices last week, announcing the delivery of new 13 gallon organics collection bins and countertop bins. Wenham Town Administrator Jeff Chelgren made a Connect-CTY call to residents on Friday. “Within the kitchen collection container there will be flyers with additional information on the new organic waste program,” Chelgren said in his message. The information in the flyers can also be found online. Already, more than 500 homes in both towns were already participating in a first-in-the-state curbside composting program and had purchased one of the …

Ms Jenkins Thank you so much for your response. The delivery company left three bins at the bottom of the hill which is our shared driveway, these were not delivered to the addresses, as two of the three houses on the street have home office workers in them, myself among them, and I would have refused delivery. We may be unique in this respect, however I would like to get them back to the town …   more ›

Delivery Date Set for New Town-Issued Trash Barrels

The new trash plan is a month away from starting and town officials have set a delivery date for the new trash barrels that will go to every household.

Delivery of new trash barrels for each household in Hamilton and Wenham is now two weeks away. Hamilton town officials announced late last week that the new 35 gallon trash barrels will be delivered during the week of March 19. The new barrels are part of a new trash collection plan that is scheduled to begin on April 2 in Wenham and April 4 in Hamilton. The first week will be an “off” week in Hamilton, meaning there will be recycling and organics collection but there will be no solid waste collection that week unless trash is placed out in a blue bag. Collection in the new black bins will begin the week of April 9. Trash will be collected weekly in the new barrels in Wenham at no additional charge. Trash will be collected biweekly in …

@ Jim, there are two seats up for reelection in May. Only two people stepped forward to run including your current selectman chairperson. Too bad, not one person upset about this trash program agreed to put their energy toward running. When you're upset by "their Hubris" you have no one to blame but yourself.   more ›

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Monday, March 5. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Looking Ahead: The forecast for later this week sure makes it look like last week’s snowstorm will be a distant memory. The forecast calls for temperatures well above 50 on Wednesday and Thursday. But before that, Monday will be a sunny day with a high temperature near freezing. 2. Maple Sugaring: March has arrived which means it’s time for a great annual spring tradition – maple sugaring. And there’s some ways to get a front row seat to see how the whole process works. This week, a “Meet the Sugars” event is scheduled for Tuesday at Appleton Farms, with a Maple Sugaring Workshop on Wednesday. 3. Trash: The start of the new trash collection plan in both towns is exactly a …
