Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 7

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Monday, Nov. 7. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Great weather: Monday kicks off what is forecasted to be several beautiful days of weather in a row with sun and temperatures into the 60s expected through Wednesday. 2. Yard Waste: The final day for Wenham residents to drop off yard waste is Monday. The drop off points – the West Wenham playground and at Iron Rail – were set up after last month’s pre-Halloween Nor’Easter rain and snowstorm caused trees and branches to fall all over the two towns. 3. Soccer: The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School boys’ soccer team travels to Lynn on Monday night at 7 p.m. to face St. Mary’s in the Div. 3 North sectional quarterfinals at Manning Field. Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 1

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Tuesday, Nov. 1. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Storm Brush: Both Hamilton and Wenham officials made arrangements on Monday to allow residents to drop off brush from the weekend storm. In Hamilton, the landfill on Chebacco Road will be open again on Nov. 9 and in Wenham dropoff is at the West Wenham playground and at the Iron Rail property. 2. Leaves: Wenham’s curbside loose leaf collection was scheduled to begin on Monday but won’t get started until later this week because of the tree damage and other duties that require attention after the weekend Nor’Easter. 3. Senior Day: The boys’ soccer team had Senior Day planned for Monday but it has been bumped back to Tuesday. The team faces Ipswich High School at 3:45 p.m. at…

PHOTO GALLERY: Add Your Own Storm Photos

The rain, snow and wind largely spared some of the tree damage and widespread power outages in areas to our north and west, but there were plenty of fallen trees and scattered power outages.

The storm left all sorts of interesting and strange scenes in the two towns, including snow covered pumpkins and snowbanks next to trees covered with green leaves. Some of our shots come from Oliver Gulf and outside the Wenham Fire Department and Wenham Post Office plus the snow-covered polo fields at Myopia Hunt Club. But we want to see your photos. Storm Leaves Scattered Outages, A Few Inches of Snow

The fall Nor'Easter that hit the two towns over the weekend left a handful of home without electricity.

Less than 2 percent of electric customers in Hamilton and Wenham were without power just before sunrise on Sunday. A rare pre-Halloween Nor’Eastern with rain, snow and wind swept through the area on Saturday night that ended by leaving about 2-1/2 inches of snow on the ground. National Grid said there were scattered power outages in both towns affecting 74 households out of the combined 4,589 customers with both towns. The 36 customers without power in Wenham – most of them in the Lord’s Hill neighborhood off of Route 97 – were expected to have their power back by 6:30 a.m. In Hamilton, the outages were most scattered and no estimate was offered for when power would be restored. The storm did cause some small problems with downed trees and…

No Major Issues at Start of Fall Snowstorm

There were no major issues, as of late Saturday night, related to the pre-Halloween snow storm.

Very few major storm-related problems were reported in the two towns as of 11 p.m. on Saturday. The rare pre-Halloween storm began as rain and began to change over and mixed with snow around sunset. About an inch of snow accumulated by later in the evening as the snow continued to fall at a steady rate. Gov. Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency in the state on Saturday evening. Crews from Hamilton and Wenham Department of Public Works were both out treating the roads. National Grid also reported that Hamilton and Wenham were two of very few towns in Essex County as of 11 p.m. without any power outages. A few scattered branches and trees had fallen. The National Weather Service said the heaviest snow is expected between midnight and …

Snow Advisory and Wind Warning Issued for Saturday Night and Sunday

A winter weather advisory and high wind warning have been issued for Hamilton and Wenham in connection with the Nor'Easter that is moving into the area on Saturday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory and high wind warning for Hamilton and Wenham, effective at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The wet snow that is expected to fall on Saturday night will be wet and could be damaging because many leaves are still on the trees. Highway crews from Hamilton and Wenham DPW in both towns said Friday they are ready for the storm with sanders, plows and chainsaws. The winter weather advisory extends through 8 a.m. on Sunday, according to the weather service, because 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected to accumulate. A winter weather advisory is issued when snow and ice are expected but accumulation will be light and could make driving difficult. The storm is expected to begin as rain in the two …

Road Crews Ready for Pre-Halloween Snow and Wind

A late October Nor'Eastern is expected to hit the two towns with a few inches of snow and strong winds beginning on Saturday afternoon.

Public works crews in both towns say they are ready for anything Mother Nature tosses at them this weekend. Weather forecasters are calling for the possibility of 1-3 inches of snow falling in a pre-Halloween storm on Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Beyond the snow, the National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for late Saturday through Sunday morning in Hamilton and Wenham. Sustained wind of 25-35 miles per hour with wind gusts up to 55 mph are expected. The winds could cause tree damage and power outages, the weather service said. In Hamilton, Department of Public Works Director John Tomasz said that two sanders were ready to go on Friday afternoon. A few of the plow blades had been put on the trucks, he said. The rest of …
