A Hamilton man and his family writes to thank members of the community for helping to return to West Africa to visit his mother.
To the Editor: My husband Mamadou Diouck and I would like to express our gratitude to the people who have made it possible for him to visit his mother in Senegal, West Africa as her health has begun to decline. We were stunned by the outpouring of generosity and support he received, without which he wouldn’t have been able to make the trip. As an attendant at a local gas station, and as a driver and seasonal employee at the Pingree School, he has been blessed by acts of kindness and extraordinary generosity. From the start of his stay at the gas station, folks have extended themselves in conversation, dropped off gloves on frigid days and shared holiday cookies. The Pingree School boys basketball team is runner-up in Class C of the New England Prep School Association.
The boys basketball team at Pingree School ended the season as league runner-up, according to a report on Westport Now, losing to Greens Farms Academy 55-50 in the Class C finals of the New England Prep School Association. The crowds were big and noisy for both teams at the game played at Worcester Academy in Worcester, according to a report by the Westport Minuteman. Johnny Spears of Haverhill led the Highlanders, the tournament's No. 3 seed, scoring 19 points. Kyle Lentini of North Reading added 12. With 39 seconds to go, Pingree pulled within 2 points, 51-49 on a 3-pointers by Spears, according to an account of the game by the Westport Minuteman. Pingree School has cancelled its afternoon activities, while the Regional School District is going ahead with its usual programs.
All afternoon and evening activities have been cancelled at Pingree School in Hamilton because of the approaching winter storm. All evening activities and events are happening as scheduled in the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District as of 3 p.m., including the public interview with Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School principal candidate Eric Tracy at 5 p.m. and the girls’ swim meet in Ipswich. Before noon, Pingree announced on its website that all afternoon activities – including practices, games, clubs and rehearsals – were canceled on Monday. Pingree School is launching an exchange school with an Armenia school that includes an exhibit and assembly on Jan. 10 that is open to the public.
Two teachers from Armenia will visit Pingree School in early February as part of the first exchange between an American independent school and an Armenian school. After the visit by the Armenian teachers, Pingree's Director of Multicultural Education Trina Gary and English teacher Michelle Ramadan will travel to Armenia to visit a school in Armenia in March. The teachers visiting from Armenia and those from Pingree will spend time in each other's classrooms with students and faculty, sharing culture, history, pedagogy, philosophies of education and more for nearly two weeks.
