Five Things to Know on Jan. 2: Free Open Skating

Today is Wednesday, Jan. 2. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Cold: The sun is forecasted to shine bright on Wednesday, but it will not do much the warm things up. The high temperature will be in the upper 20s with winds gusting to 25 miles per hour. 2. Governor’s Council: The Governor’s Council meets for the first time in the new year on Wednesday. Hamilton and Wenham have a new representative on the council, Eileen Duff (D-Gloucester), who was elected in November to replace Mary-Ellen Manning (D-Peabody), who decided to not seek reelection to run for the state Senate. Five Things to Know on Dec. 27: Free Family Skating

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Thursday, Dec. 27. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Storm: A storm that moved in overnight on Wednesday is expected to last until at least midday on Thursday, starting as snow before changing over to rain for most of the day on Thursday. It will be very windy and temperatures will be in the 40s. 2. Family Skate: Here’s a great activity idea close to home during school vacation week – free family skating at Pingree School. The Johnson rink will be open to the public from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday for skating. No pucks or sticks will be allowed and there are no skate rentals so bring your own skates. 3. Five Things You Need to Know Today: April 4

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Wednesday, April 4. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Trash: The kickoff of the new trash program moves to Hamilton on Wednesday. For the rest of the week, recycling and organics collection will happen on the regular day in Hamilton but there will be no trash pickup in the new black bins. Instead, only trash placed out in a blue bag will be picked up. Next week trash in the black bins, organics in the green bins and recycling in a labeled container will all be collected in Hamilton. A complete list of pickup days, listed street-by-street, is attached to this story as a PDF. 2. Today is Tuesday, Dec. 27. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Rain: A cloudy Tuesday will turn into a very rainy Tuesday night. The forecast on Tuesday calls for gusty winds and temperatures getting into the upper 40s before one to two inches of rain will fall on Tuesday night. 2. Open Skate: There’s two more free family open skate sessions this week at Pingree School’s Johnson Rink. The rink will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:30-3:30 pm. 3. Today is Monday, Dec. 19. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Weather: The coldest weather since early March moved through on Sunday, but temperatures are forecasted to get back up to normal on Monday. After an overnight low temperature into the teens, Monday will be sunny with temperatures into the mid-40s with gusty winds. 2. Skating: The first of several free, open public skates at Pingree School’s Johnson rink comes on Monday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. There are several open skate times scheduled for the public during the next two weeks while the school is on holiday break. 3. Today is Tuesday, Nov. 15. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Warm: Wow, was that 70 was saw on the thermometer on Monday? It might have been. And forecasters are saying Tuesday is expected to be just as nice, with temperatures into the 60s with clouds and a slight chance of rain. 2. Winter Parking Ban: The overnight winter parking ban in Wenham begins on Tuesday. Vehicles are banned from parking on the street from midnight to 8 a.m. for longer than an hour between Nov. 15 and March 31, according to Wenham police. Violations come with a $15 fine. 3. First Church grants: Tuesday is the deadline to apply for the First Church in Wenham’s Special Grants Program. The church’s grant committee will meet in late fall and present the …

Today is Thursday, Sept. 1. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Weather: We are in the midst of an incredible streak that continues on Thursday. The forecast calls for sun and temperatures in the upper 70s. 2. Power: We proudly report that every home and business and the two towns had power back on Wednesday, while literally tens of thousands of others across the state waited for power to come back. As of Wednesday evening, there were 61,000 National Grid customers without power in the state. For comparison, that’s 13 times more electric customers than there are, in total, in the two towns. 3. Weather: There’s a chance of rain showers to start the day on Monday with an increasing chance of sun later in the day with temperatures getting to about 80 degrees. 2. Adam Sandler: Is an Adam Sandler movie being shot in Hamilton? Yes, according to at least one Hollywood blog. “On Location Vacations” reported Sunday that signs for Sandler’s latest film “I Hate You Dad” has been seen around Pingree School.
