School Headed Toward Producing Half Its Own Electricity

Solar panels have already been added to the roof of the ice rink at Pingree School and panels will also be added to a new athletic building that is under construction.

On top of the ice rink at Pingree School there's now more than 700 solar panels, all working together to produce nearly half the electricity needed by the rink. It is the first half of what the school plans will be a complete project next year that will mean about half the school's electricity needs will come from solar panels on the roof of the Highland Street school's buildings, according to Jock Burns, Pingree's director of finance and operations. In addition to saving on the electric bill, the panels become a lesson for students, who can monitor the panel's electrical production from an online monitoring center. That will be incorporated into the science curriculum and Burns said the school's environmental club will also get involved. …

Pingree Senior 'Just Understood Everyone'

Chris Chaloux shares thoughts on his brother Tim Chaloux, the Pingree School senior who was killed in a car crash on Saturday morning.

Chris Chaloux, the 26-year-old brother of Tim Chaloux, has shared thoughts and kind words about his brother as plans have been finalized for Chaloux's wake and funeral. Tim Chaloux of North Reading, a senior at Pingree School, suffered fatal injuries in a car crash Saturday morning. The services will be held Thursday, April 18 and Friday, April 19, according to Chris Chaloux. The wake will be held Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Cota Funeral Home on Park Street in North Reading. The funeral will be held on Friday at noon at St. Theresa’s Parish on Winter Street in North Reading. There will be a Collation after the funeral. Twice, Disaster Has Prevented Pingree School Teacher From Finishing a Marathon

John Young was hoping to become the first little person to finish the Boston Marathon.

For Pingree School math teacher John Young, yesterday's bombings marked the second time a disaster has prevented him from finishing one of the world's most prestigious marathons. In November, Hurricane Sandy forced New York City to cancel its marathon. Young, who lives in Salem, had hoped to become the first little person to finish that marathon. Then came Monday's tragedy. Young and another little person, Juli Windsor of the South End, had sought to become the first of their stature to complete the Boston Marathon. Young, in an email to Patch, said he is okay and that the race was cancelled when he was about 3/4 of a mile from the finish line.

Pingree Senior from North Reading Victim in Fatal Car Crash

An 18-year-old North Reading male was identified as the sole victim in a fatal car crash Saturday morning on Route 128 in Danvers.

The driver killed in a Saturday morning car crash in Danvers was a senior at Pingree School in Hamilton. State police have identified the victim as 18-year-old Timothy Chaloux of North Reading. Chaloux was driving a 2011 Honda Civic on the southbound side of Route 128 in Danvers when the car veered off the roadway near Exit 23 and into a wooded area, according to Massachusetts State Police. The car came to a stop on a hill leading down toward Home Depot at the Liberty Tree Mall. Troopers assigned to the Danvers barracks responded to the scene at approximately 6:55 a.m., along with Danvers police and firefighters, after receiving a call from someone who spotted the vehicle in the woods. State police said Chaloux sustained fatal injuries in …

Student Volunteer Recognized for Race Relations

Connie Truong has been organizing the third annual Asian American Footsteps Conference.

A student at Pingree School in Hamilton has won a top honor for her work on race relations. Connie Truong, a senior from Lawrence, has been awarded the Princeton University Prize in Race Relations in the Boston area, reports The Eagle-Tribune. The award comes with a $1,000 prize and Truong has been invited to Princeton University to take part in the school's Prize Symposium on Race in April. Truong is in her third year of helping organize the annual Asian American Footsteps Conference at Pingree.
