Students: Why Did You Choose an Interim High School Principal?

Two high school juniors question the acting superintendent last week about why an interim principal was chosen over the two finalists for the high school principal job.

Two high school juniors questioned school leaders last week about why finalists for the high school principal job were bypassed in favor of opening a search for a one-year interim principal for Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School. Ian Thompson and Allison Manzelli said they were curious about the decision. “The whole student body is,” Thompson said. The pair said the transition from one principal to another is not fair for students and teachers. They had hoped that a permanent choice was made to start the upcoming school year. The interim principal will be their third principal in their high school career, they said. Dear Peter Gray, I cannot believe you are initiating yet another candidate search for principal when you had TWO perfectly wonderful applicants, who were supported by the community, at your disposal. Do you not have enough on your plate with an empty superintendent slot and an elementary principal position to fill as well? Do you have all the time in the world? Our students do not!! Interim Principal to Lead High School, New Superintendent Will Make Permanent Pick

Acting Superintendent Peter Gray announced Thursday that an interim principal will lead Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School for the coming year and a new search will launch for a permanent replacement.

A new school superintendent should decide on the next principal at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, Acting Superintendent Peter Gray said on Thursday. That is what led to Gray’s decision on Wednesday to not offer the job to either of the two finalists for the job, who spent last Thursday in Hamilton meeting with students, teachers, staff and parents at the school. The two finalists were Philip Conrad, a former associate and assistant principal at the Regional who is now principal at Rockport Middle/High School and Richard Manley, a teacher and former principal at Windham High School in New Hampshire. Instead, of choosing either Conrad or Manley to fill the position permanently, an interim principal will be selected for the upcoming …

I am in disbelief when I read the constant stupidity of my town in papers of while watching the Selectman on the TV. When can the school committee begin to act like intelligent group? Perhaps it will be when the remainder of the group is replaced, much like what seems to have happened with the Selectman. Until we get people out of town government like chairwomen of the BoS Jennifer Scuteri - …   more ›

Neither High School Principal Candidate Gets the Job

Neither of the two finalists to become the next principal at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School were selected for the job.

Neither of the two finalists to become the next principal of Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School has been selected for the job, Acting Superintendent Peter Gray told the school’s teachers and staff on Wednesday. Gray confirmed to Patch on Thursday morning that neither candidate was selected and that a press release would be distributed later on Thursday detailing the reasons for his decision. Gray, as acting superintendent, is charged with making the selection. The job became open when Matt Fox was hired as principal of Veterans Middle School in Marblehead. Fox had been the principal of both the high school and Miles River Middle School. The new position would be just for the high school. A separate search for a middle school principal - …
