Forecast Now Calls for 1-4 Inches of Snow Wednesday Night

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Wednesday night because several inches of snow are expected to accumulate.

A forecast that midday on Wednesday called for just a coating of snow has now been bumped up to the possibility of 1-4 inches of snow by Thursday morning. At 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Hamilton and Wenham plus most of the North Shore. The advisory runs through 7 a.m. on Thursday. Snow has already begun to accumulate by 9:30 p.m. and some roads were snow covered and slippery. It is the first accumulating snow of the winter of 2012-13. A winter weather advisory is issued when snow or ice is in forecast but accumulations are expected to be light. “Snow will continue to affect the region well into the overnight hours,” the weather service said in its advisory. “The precipitation may…

National Grid Activates 'Emergency Response System' for Second Time in 10 Days

National Grid said it is ready to go with more than 500 crews in the event of power outages from Wednesday night's Nor'Easter.

National Grid, the electric utility that had hundreds of thousands of customers without power in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy including more than 1,000 in Hamilton and Wenham, said it is ready for Wednesday night’s Nor’Easter. The latest storm first moved in on Wednesday morning and is expected to last into Thursday with high winds, heavy rain and some heavy wet snow to the west and north. National Grid said it is ready to respond to any power outages that may occur as a result of the weather. There are more than 500 line and tree crews available and ready to respond to any storm-related outages, plus more than 200 “wires-down” personnel. That includes both National Grid crews and those from other companies that are assisting National …

Nor'easter's Wind and Rain May Affect Wednesday Evening Commute

Expect mostly rain from Wednesday's Nor'Easter on the North Shore and snow outside of Route 495.

A nor'easter will kick up winds and rain in the region today, with sleet and snow likely north and west of Hamilton and Wenham and in the higher elevations. According to WHDH meteorologist Chris Lambert, the precipitation should start between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., which would impact the afternoon commute. Atmospheric conditions may convert falling rain into snow in Hamilton and Wenham, though that would mean merely a dusting on grass before quickly melting away. The actual rain/snow line is harder to predict. "I don't expect much, if any accumulation in the Boston area, maybe a slushy coating around Rte. 128 on grassy surfaces as rain and snow battle it out for a few hours in the early evening," wrote Lambert on the 7 Weather Blog. "The snow …

Nor'easter Could Blow Through Wednesday

The storm could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain late Wednesday into Thursday and bring wind gusts along the coast.

A little more than a week after 'superstorm' Sandy swept through Hamilton and Wenham, residents may have to brace for another windy, rainy night on Wednesday. A nor'easter could blow into the area mid-week and the storm could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain from Wednesday into Thursday, according to WHDH meteorologist Jeremy Rainer.  Rainer also wrote that coastal winds could gust between 40 and 60 miles per hour along the South Shore, Cape Cod and the islands, although winds "will be much lighter inland with this storm." The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook statement on Monday at 8:44 p.m., saying that strong to damaging northeast winds are likely especially across Eastern Massachusetts late Wednesday into at least …

UPDATED: Hurricane Sandy No Longer a Tropical Storm

Sandy diminished in intensity last night but has picked up this morning.

Update, 8:20 a.m. Saturday: According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), Sandy has been upgraded again to a hurricane, just hours after being downgraded to a tropical storm.  In its 8 a.m. bulletin, the NOAA reported an Air Force aircraft found hurricane-strength winds again. Earlier, in its 5 a.m. bulletin, the NOAA issued warnings and watches to the Southeastern parts of the country, including Florida, but said those up the Eastern seaboard need to prepare for its impact. The storm is moving North-Northeast at 10 mph and an increase in intensity and speed possible tonight and Sunday, according to the NOAA. Sandy is currently considered to be "very large," with winds extending as far as 450 miles from its center. …

Snow Advisory and Wind Warning Issued for Saturday Night and Sunday

A winter weather advisory and high wind warning have been issued for Hamilton and Wenham in connection with the Nor'Easter that is moving into the area on Saturday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory and high wind warning for Hamilton and Wenham, effective at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The wet snow that is expected to fall on Saturday night will be wet and could be damaging because many leaves are still on the trees. Highway crews from Hamilton and Wenham DPW in both towns said Friday they are ready for the storm with sanders, plows and chainsaws. The winter weather advisory extends through 8 a.m. on Sunday, according to the weather service, because 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected to accumulate. A winter weather advisory is issued when snow and ice are expected but accumulation will be light and could make driving difficult. The storm is expected to begin as rain in the two …

Road Crews Ready for Pre-Halloween Snow and Wind

A late October Nor'Eastern is expected to hit the two towns with a few inches of snow and strong winds beginning on Saturday afternoon.

Public works crews in both towns say they are ready for anything Mother Nature tosses at them this weekend. Weather forecasters are calling for the possibility of 1-3 inches of snow falling in a pre-Halloween storm on Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Beyond the snow, the National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for late Saturday through Sunday morning in Hamilton and Wenham. Sustained wind of 25-35 miles per hour with wind gusts up to 55 mph are expected. The winds could cause tree damage and power outages, the weather service said. In Hamilton, Department of Public Works Director John Tomasz said that two sanders were ready to go on Friday afternoon. A few of the plow blades had been put on the trucks, he said. The rest of …
