Overnight Gas Leak Evacuated Two Hamilton Homes

Two homes in downtown Hamilton had to be evacuated overnight in downtown Hamilton because of a gas leak.

Two Hamilton families had to evacuate their homes early Monday morning because of a gas leak in the neighborhood. The leak was first reported at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday at 50 Mill St., according to Hamilton Fire Chief Phil Stevens Jr. and National Grid spokesman David Graves. While 50 Mill St. was checked by firefighters and found to not have any gas inside the home, nearby at 54 Mill St. there were “strong readings” of gas. “The residents were not aware of the leak and were evacuated,” Stevens said. After that, 52 Mill St. was also evacuated. In all, firefighters checked the gas level in nearly a dozen homes on Cottage and Mill streets. Elevated levels were found at 52 Mill St. and 54 Mill St. and the residents were told to leave the home …

Gas Lines Being Replaced in Hamilton Neighborhood; Work to Last 3-4 Weeks

National Grid is replacing 1,600 feet of gas main under the road in a Hamilton neighborhood.

National Grid is replacing about a third of a mile of gas mains under the road in a Hamilton neighborhood. The project along Fox Run Road and Tally Ho Drive will replace 1,600 feet of steel gas mains with plastic gas mains began on Monday, according to Charlotte McCormack, a National Grid spokesman. The work area runs from 33 Fox Run Road to 89 Fox Run Road and from 4 Tally Ho Drive to 30 Tally Ho Drive. "The estimated timeframe to complete the work is 3-4 weeks, barring any inclement weather that might force us to temporarily stop work,” McCormack said. The project could also run longer if workers encounter unforeseen circumstances that would force National Grid to stop work, she said. McCormack said that residents along those stretches …

National Grid Plans to Reduce Gas and Electric Rates

National Grid gas and electricity customers in Hamilton and Wenham might see reduced rates for the next few months if proposed cuts are approved.

It appears that there’s good news for National Grid customers in Hamilton and Wenham coming very soon. In a pair of recent announcements, National Grid said they expect to lower the price for natural gas and electricity costs to take effect throughout Massachusetts from May 1 to October 1, pending permission from the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. The rate drop would apply to all customers in Hamilton and Wenham. There are about 4,600 National Grid electric customers in the two towns, combined. Natural Gas bills are expected to be cut by 13 percent, with the current average bill of $47 per month dropping to $41. Electricity bill cuts are projected at 10.4 percent, with an approximate $7.74 savings for an average customer. …
