A Hamilton native who burst onto the NCAA Division 1 basketball scene this past year has decided he will enter this year's NBA draft.
Michael Carter-Williams, who just six years ago called the gymnasium at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School his home court, will enter the NBA draft this June. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Carter-Williams' coach at Syracuse University, Jim Boeheim. Carter-Williams is a sophomore point guard at the school and played a key role for the team this season, helping them to the Final Four of the March Madness tournament. "Michael has informed me of his intention to enter the NBA Draft," said Boeheim in the Wednesday afternoon announcement. The mother of a Hamilton native who was reportedly headed into the NBA draft this spring says her son remains undecided.
The mother of a local basketball player who is leading the NCAA in average assists per game said Tuesday her son is still undecided about entering the NBA draft this spring. Mandy Carter-Zegarowski is the mother of Michael Carter-Williams, a sophomore point guard at Syracuse University who played his freshman year at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School and later transferred to St. Andrew's in Rhode Island, where he graduated in 2011. A Hamilton native that played his freshman year of basketball at the Regional may be headed to the NBA later this year, according to one media outlet in Providence.
An online news website in Providence is reporting that Hamilton native Michael Carter-Williams will turn pro and enter this spring's NBA draft. GoLocalProv, citing "multiple sources," said Carter-Williams will declare for this spring professional draft. The draft is in June.
