Sunday, Oct. 7 is the next to last day of the 2012 Topsfield Fair, the oldest fair in the country. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. The agricultural buildings close at 10 p.m. In the grandstand, the Flying Wallendas return for their second of three days of high-wire performances. They will perform for free at 2 and 7 p.m. The Mrs. Essex County Pageant takes place at 2 p.m. in Coolidge Hall. The First Congregational Church of Boxford will hold a service at 10 a.m. at the Trianon Stage. In the Essex County Farrmyard, the State Police K-9 team will be on display at noon and 2 p.m. and Farm Animal Fun will be there at 10 a.m. and 1, 4 and 5 p.m. Many other free shows are happening throughout the day across the fairgrounds. Today is Thursday, Oct. 6. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Boil Water: Again, we remind you that Wenham Water Department customers are under a boil water order until at least Friday afternoon. Water should be boiled for at least a minute before it is used. 2. Sun: Make it day two of sun on Thursday. In addition to the sun, the forecast calls for temperatures around 60 degrees. 3. Mrs. Essex County: Thursday is the deadline to enter the Mrs. Essex County contest at the Topsfield Fair this weekend. The Mrs. Essex County Pageant will crown the 41st Mrs. Essex County at this year’s Topsfield Fair. Through the years, hundreds of women have entered the contest for the honor of representing the Essex Agricultural Society at local events and serving as hostess of the Topsfield Fair. It is not a beauty competition - the Mrs. Essex County Pageant invites entries of married women living in Essex County, over the age of 18, with general appearance, poise, outgoing personality and spirit of volunteerism. Contestants also submit a homemade food item for judging.
