The Lady Wildcats snagged the edge midway through the first half and never looked back, earning a 2-0 win over Hamilton-Wenham.
The expression goes that things went wrong for a team as soon as they stepped off the bus. But for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School girls soccer team, things weren’t exactly going great even before the bus arrived. On the way to their Div. 2 North semifinal tilt on Saturday night, the Generals hit traffic and didn’t set foot onto the field until about 25 minutes remaining before kick off. Things didn’t get much better from there as sixth-seeded Wilmington toppled second-ranked Hamilton-Wenham in a 2-0 decision. “I said (to the driver) you’ve got to move over, we’re not going to make it. But I don’t think it had an impact on the game,” said head coach Alvi Ibanez. “We understood that at this game on this stage we needed to hang …

Hamilton-Wenham fell, 2-0, to Wilmington in the Div. 2 North semifinals on Saturday night in Woburn.
All it took for momentum to shift in Saturday's Div. 2 North semifinal tilt was one loud clang. Hamilton-Wenham's Emily Gaucher fired a shot off the cross bar, and just 40 seconds later Wilmington countered with a goal to take the lead for good. The No. 6 Lady Wildcats went on to a 2-0 win, eliminating the No. 2 seeded Generals from the postseason. Check back with Hamilton-Wenham Patch on Monday for complete coverage.

A second-half Generals comeback goes for naught as a Spartans senior nets a hat trick in the Div. 3 North sectional quarterfinals on Monday night.
Last year the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School boys soccer team bowed out of the Div. 3 North sectionals in a shootout. Monday night at Manning Field in Lynn it appeared history would repeat itself as the clock wound down to less than 5 minutes remaining in the second 10-minute overtime period against St. Mary’s. The Generals wish it got that far. Spartans senior forward Ralph Bertrand completed the hat trick with 4:39 showing on the clock when he flicked a header past Generals goalie Luke Besse for a 3-2 win, ending the game, and Hamilton-Wenham’s season in the quarterfinals. “St. Mary’s is a good team,” said Hamilton-Wenham coach Matt Gauron. “There were good chances on both sides but on their final chance they took advantage.” The …

The Generals were led by Luke Farley with an 80. Luke Drieze and Ryan Richard each carded an 83 and Tom Conville scored 86. One of the highlights for the Generals was a hole-in-one …

The Hamilton-Wenham cross-country teams both ran away with first place in their Division 5 Eastern Massachusetts cross-country championships on Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston.
The wins just keep coming in for the Cape Ann League Champion Hamilton-Wenham cross-country teams, as both the boys and girls squads claimed the first place trophies at the MIAA Eastern Massachusetts Divisional Cross-Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Franklin Park in Boston. "Both of our teams ran very, very well," said head coach Steve Sawyer. "The boys ran in a nice pack; and with the girls we wanted to see how many could get in the top 15 and we got six, which is pretty good. They all ran confident and we are all happy. " Leading the way for the girls was CAL Runner of the Year, senior Alison Lanois, who took first place overall with a time of 19:11. The Lady Generals accrued only 42 points, followed by Weston (60), Coyle & …

The No. 11 Hamilton-Wenham girls soccer team posted another upset in the North Tournament, topping No. 3 Stoneham 3-2 on Tuesday at Woburn High School to advance to the semifinals against Danvers on Thursday.
The No. 11 Hamilton-Wenham girls soccer team prolonged its dream season, as it upset the No. 3 Stoneham Spartans 3-2 in the MIAA Division II North Quarter-Finals on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Woburn High School. The conditions were miserable as the rain came down for the entire 80 minutes of play, making the flow of the game fast and unpredictable. The Generals (11-5-2) were able to claim the first half as All-League senior midfielder Caroline Savasta netted two goals. Both shots were from a fair distance from the goal - 15 and 25 yards - but the wet ball was mishandled by the Stoneham keeper both times putting the visitors up 2-0 at halftime. "I was telling everyone to take advantage of the weather, and that's what I did," said Savasta of her two…

The No. 11 Hamilton-Wenham girls' soccer team beat the Boston City League Champions, No. 6 O’Bryant High School, on Sunday.
The No. 11 Hamilton-Wenham girls soccer team went into their Division II North match-up against No. 6 O'Bryant High School (12-5-2) team as underdogs; but the Lady Generals controlled the play from the opening whistle and easily defeated the Boston City League Champs 11-0. Hamilton-Wenham (10-5-2) took an early lead as senior captain Katie Flores scored in the fourth minute. All-league sophomore-forward Alana Vecchiarello quickly made it 2-0 as she drove a header into the O'Bryant net, off a corner kick in the ninth minute. The Generals continued to control the ball and added to their lead significantly, as sophomore Emily Gaucher headed in a cross from senior Marissa Lampe in the 14th minute and Vecchiarello scored her second goal of the…
