Letter to the Editor: You Can Help Keep the Towns Strong

A member of the North Shore United Way board writes to say that all donations until the end of April will be matched.

To the Editor: We all receive lots of solicitations, but I believe for the residents of Hamilton and Wenham that the North Shore United Way really is a special case. NSUW deserves a share of your annual charitable giving. The NSUW provides essential funding for programs that support the youth and families in Hamilton and Wenham along with six neighboring towns. These include the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Student Assistance Program, HAWC, Wellspring House, the Y Financial Assistance Fund, the Acord Food Pantry, Harborlight Community Partners, Beverly Bootstraps and the Open Door in Gloucester. These charities do more than just provide a band aid; they open the door to life-changing opportunities to influence youth outcomes and …

It's Official: Carter-Williams is Going Pro

A Hamilton native who burst onto the NCAA Division 1 basketball scene this past year has decided he will enter this year's NBA draft.

Michael Carter-Williams, who just six years ago called the gymnasium at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School his home court, will enter the NBA draft this June. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Carter-Williams' coach at Syracuse University, Jim Boeheim. Carter-Williams is a sophomore point guard at the school and played a key role for the team this season, helping them to the Final Four of the March Madness tournament. "Michael has informed me of his intention to enter the NBA Draft," said Boeheim in the Wednesday afternoon announcement. "He's coming off a tremendous season and we appreciate all he's done for Syracuse basketball. We wish Michael the best of luck as he pursues a pro career." For Carter-Williams, that success came …

It will look and feel much more like springtime, with the forecast calling for temperatures in the 50s and a chance of a rain showers for most of the day with cloudy skies. 2. Storytime: Signup open on Wednesday at 10 a.m. for Hamilton-Wenham Library’s spring storytimes. The spring session runs from the week of April 22 though May 29. Cool: The cold weather sticks around again on Wednesday with the high temperature not expects to get above about 40 degrees, with gusty winds again, much like Tuesday. 2. Concert: Musicians from the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Instrumental Department will present its unique annual Prism concert on Wednesday night. "Just as a prism breaks light into its component parts, the Prism concert breaks our instrumental music department into its varied components," according to the music department. One Act Play Will Compete as One of New England's Best

The high school's Theatre Workshop production of "Static" will represent Massachusetts at the New England Drama Festival in Woonsocket, R.I. later this month.

Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School's Theatre Workshop is headed to the New England Drama Festival in Woonsocket R.I on April 17-19 as one of the representatives from Massachusetts. The group's original play "STATIC" was performed last week at the state finals in Boston, where they were chosen along with St. John's Prep of Danvers to go to the New England festival. The Regional's Emily Tanch and Lara Molnar were both elected to the All-Star cast and Hamilton-Wenham provided the opening and closing videos for the event. The final local public performance of 'STATIC" will be on April 10 at 7 p.m. in the Ferrini Dramatics Center at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School.

Top Regional School Students to be Honored at Scholars Dinner

The top students from Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School will join other top scholar from nearly three dozens schools on the North Shore at a recognition dinner in May.

The top 5 percent of seniors at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School will be honored with a dinner hosted by the North Shore Chamber of Commerce next month. About 300 students from 33 public and private high schools will be honored at the Honor Scholars Recognition Dinner on May 14. "The future of the North Shore demands a strong workforce with skilled and educated business leaders to be able to innovate and prosper," the Chamber said in announcing the students that will be honored. "These North Shore Honor Scholars will be our region’s future leaders." Oldest Hamilton Woman Gets a New Cane [VIDEO]

The former librarian at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School and a longtime parishioner at the First Congregational Church of Hamilton is awarded the Boston Post Cane on Monday.

Edna Barney, 96, of Hamilton was given the Boston Post Cane on Monday in an event at the Hamilton Council on Aging building. See the attached video from the event, including Barney thanking everyone in attendance and recognition from State Rep. Brad Hill and David Neill, chairman of the Board of Selectmen.

High School's One-Act Play Headed to State Finals

The Regional's performance of its own production comes Thursday evening at the Back Bay Convention Center.

Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School’s Theatre Workshop will perform its one-act play "Static" at the state finals of the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild’s One-Act Festival on Thursday in Boston. The Regional High School's performance at the Back Bay Convention Center at John Hancock Hall in Boston will be on Thursday, March 21 at 6 p.m. The festival runs through the weekend. Theatre Workshop (TW) created their original one-act play “STATIC” through a process of improvisation and collaborative script writing.  Directed by Christopher Shailor, Director of Drama at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, “STATIC” explores the issues and ethics involved in the accelerating use of robots in our society.
