Wilmington Too Much For Second-Seeded Girls Soccer

The Lady Wildcats snagged the edge midway through the first half and never looked back, earning a 2-0 win over Hamilton-Wenham.

The expression goes that things went wrong for a team as soon as they stepped off the bus. But for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School girls soccer team, things weren’t exactly going great even before the bus arrived. On the way to their Div. 2  North semifinal tilt on Saturday night, the Generals hit traffic and didn’t set foot onto the field until about 25 minutes remaining before kick off. Things didn’t get much better from there as sixth-seeded Wilmington toppled second-ranked Hamilton-Wenham in a 2-0 decision. “I said (to the driver) you’ve got to move over, we’re not going to make it. But I don’t think it had an impact on the game,” said head coach Alvi Ibanez. “We understood that at this game on this stage we needed to hang …

Girls Soccer Falls Just Short of North Final

Hamilton-Wenham fell, 2-0, to Wilmington in the Div. 2 North semifinals on Saturday night in Woburn.

All it took for momentum to shift in Saturday's Div. 2 North semifinal tilt was one loud clang. Hamilton-Wenham's Emily Gaucher fired a shot off the cross bar, and just 40 seconds later Wilmington countered with a goal to take the lead for good. The No. 6 Lady Wildcats went on to a 2-0 win, eliminating the No. 2 seeded Generals from the postseason. Check back with Hamilton-Wenham Patch on Monday for complete coverage.

Girls Soccer Can't Muster Offense Against Amesbury

Amesbury's lone goal was scored in the first half in the Generals 1-0 loss in girls' soccer on Tuesday afternoon.

It may have been a false sense of hope with a season-opening 4-0 win over North Reading. Or maybe it was still learning to play with each other early in the season. Either way, the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School girls soccer team was unable to get the offense going in a 1-0 loss to visiting Amesbury on Tuesday. “We were obviously not clicking on all cylinders today,” said coach Chalmers Congdon. “It was a tough loss but we will take what we can from it.” When asked what that might be, Congdon rattled off, “intensity, communication and working together” off the top of his head. “This was a tough game to watch (as a coach),” he said. “Our passes weren’t where they needed to be.” The Generals (1-1) turned up the pressure a bit in the …
