Today is Monday, Oct. 8. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Cooler: It is shaping up to be sunny, but cool, on Monday. The forecast calls for clear skies with temperatures topping out in the 50s. 2. Music Man: Typically, Music Man Brian Doser delivers his performances for kids at the Community House on Mondays, but he is off on Monday for Columbus Day. He returns at 10 a.m. on Thursday and then again next Monday. 3. Final Day: The final day of the Topsfield Fair is on Monday. It is open the regular hours of 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. 4. Fire Prevention: Fire Prevention Week starts on Monday, marking the week each fall with increased efforts by public safety crews to educate children and those of all ages about the …

Second State Finals Top 10 Finish in Two Years for Golf Team

The high school golf team notched its second top 10 finish in the state for the second straight year on Monday after not qualifying for the state finals for the five years prior to that.

The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School golf team finished eighth in the Div. 3 state championship on Monday, making it the second top 10 finish in two years for the Generals. The team score of 332 was 19 strokes behind champion Westwood but just two strokes out of seventh – where the Generals finished last year. Last year was the first time in five years that Hamilton-Wenham had gone to the state finals in golf. On Monday afternoon, Coach Bill Corley said the team finished in the middle of the pack but did not have the complete results available. There were 15 teams in the Div. 3 tournament at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis, meaning the Generals eighth place finish was just about exactly in the middle. The Generals top scorer, Luke …

Golf Team Finishes 'Middle of the Pack' in State Tournament

The high school golf team finished 19 strokes behind the state champion at the Div. 3 state tournament on Monday.

The boy’s golf team finished 19 strokes back to Div. 3 state champion Westwood at the state tournament on Monday. “We finished in about the middle of the pack,” said Coach Bill Corley after play at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis. The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School golfers ended with a 332, behind winner Westwood at 313. Westwood bested Medfield by going to a tie-breaking fifth scorer. The final team results were not available on Monday night. Check back to Patch for the final team result. The Generals finished seventh at the state tournament last year. The Generals were led by Luke Farley with an 80. Luke Drieze and Ryan Richard each carded an 83 and Tom Conville scored 86. One of the highlights for the Generals was a hole-in-one …

Today is Monday, Nov. 7. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Great weather: Monday kicks off what is forecasted to be several beautiful days of weather in a row with sun and temperatures into the 60s expected through Wednesday. 2. Yard Waste: The final day for Wenham residents to drop off yard waste is Monday. The drop off points – the West Wenham playground and at Iron Rail – were set up after last month’s pre-Halloween Nor’Easter rain and snowstorm caused trees and branches to fall all over the two towns. 3. Soccer: The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School boys’ soccer team travels to Lynn on Monday night at 7 p.m. to face St. Mary’s in the Div. 3 North sectional quarterfinals at Manning Field. Generals Sports Roundup: Golf Heads to States, Cross Country Ends As CAL Champs Again

The high school golf team is headed to the state finals for the second year in a row next Monday and both the boys' and girls' cross-country teams ended as Cape Ann League small champions on Tuesday.

The golf team at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School is the Div. 3 North runner-ups – by a point - and the field hockey team got its third tie of the fall on Tuesday. Golf: The golf team was second in the Div. 3 North Sectional on Monday at Far Corner Golf Club in Boxford on Monday. The team was just one point behind Weston, 322-321. General Luke Farley was the tournament champion, shooting a one over par 73. Other Generals who helped in the scoring were Ryan Richard (8th, 79), Luke Drieze (13th, 81) and Joe Merrill (48th, 89). Tom Conville (53rd, 90) and Brian Nicoll (64th, 92) rounded out play for the Generals. The Generals finish means Hamilton-Wenham joins Weston and Wayland, which finished third, in next Monday’s state championships …

Generals Sports Roundup: Back-to-Back Ties For Girls' Soccer

The girls' soccer team has back-to-back games that ended in a tie and the boys' soccer teamed up to score seven goals against Manchester-Essex last Friday.

The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School girls’ soccer team tied twice in two games in recent days to Cape Ann League opponents while the boys’ soccer team had a seven goal win over Manchester-Essex. Volleyball: Masconomet, 3; Hamilton-Wenham, 0. The Generals volleyball team (4-10) lost in three straight games at home on Monday evening to Masconomet Regional High School. The game scores were 19-25, 16-25 and 21-25. Top play from the Generals came from junior outside hitter Rachel Gershlak with 12 serves, including four aces plus 14 digs and sophomore setter Emily Thornburg with 12 serves including one ace. The North Andover Scarlet Knights were the opponents for most Generals sports teams on Monday afternoon, with the girls’ soccer team notching a tie and the field hockey and volleyball team falling to the Cape Ann League rivals. Girls’ Soccer: Hamilton-Wenham, 2; North Andover, 2. The Generals girls’ soccer team (4-7-1) tied North Andover 2-2 at home on Monday. Hamilton-Wenham’s Alana Vecchiarello and Abby Hughes each scored a goal. The team is next scheduled to be in action on Wednesday afternoon at home versus Lynnfield. Field Hockey: North Andover, 7; Hamilton-Wenham, 0. The Generals field hockey team (2-6-2) lost to North Andover on Monday on the road. Generals Sports Roundup: Back-to-Back Wins for Girls' Soccer

The girls' soccer team notched back-to-back wins last week and the volleyball team had a solid 3-0 win over Revere.

The girls’ soccer team from Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School had its biggest win of the season, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon over Rockport before beating Georgetown on Friday for its first back-to-back wins of the fall. Girls’ Soccer: Hamilton-Wenham, 4; Rockport, 0. Jen Cook and Alana Vecchiarello each scored and Sophia Becker netted two goals in the Generals’ (2-7) convincing win over Rockport on Wednesday at home. Hamilton Wenham, 1; Georgetown, 0. The girls’ soccer team (3-7) got its second win in three days over Georgetown at home on Friday afternoon. Alana Vecchiarello had the Generals goal. Generals Sports Roundup: Field Hockey and Boys' Soccer Ties, Golf Wins

The boys' soccer team fought back to tie Rockport and the golf team convincingly defeated Amesbury in Generals sports action on Wednesday.

The Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School boys’ soccer team fought back from a 2-0 deficit at halftime to tie Rockport 2-2 on Wednesday evening in Rockport. Boys’ Soccer: Hamilton-Wenham, 2; Rockport, 2. Senior striker Charlie Serpa notched two second half goals for the Generals (5-2-2) to end in a tie with Rockport on the road. The first goal came from a throw-in and flick-on by Max Montanari. Serpa’s second goal came off a cross from Andrew Kang. “Charlie just out ran them and willed it off his chest,” coach Matt Gauron said about the second goal. Generals Sports Roundup: Boys' Soccer Snaps Newburyport Win Streak

The boys' soccer team continued to roll on Monday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Newburyport, which had been in the midst of a five game win streak before falling to the Generals.

The Generals boys’ soccer team snapped a five game Newburyport win streak with a 2-0 win on the road Monday afternoon. Boys’ Soccer: Hamilton-Wenham, 2; Newburyport, 0. Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School (5-2-1) striker Max Montanari scored in the first half and the Generals’ Tyler Bussone scored 16 minutes into the second half to beat Newburyport 2–0 at the Clipper's Cherry Hill Fields on Monday afternoon. Junior left back Nick Fusco had assists on both goals. Goalkeeper Luke Besse posted his fifth shutout of the season and third in a row. The win moves the Generals to 3-1-0 in the League to have 11 points.
