A new program called "Rising Stars" has united the eight grade girls basketball team with the varsity team at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, in an effort to build excitement about the program. Jon DeMarco, the girls' basketball coach at the Regional, said the program is designed to provide role models to the middle school team and show them what's ahead. "They got to see what the high school practices are like," he said. They attended practice a week ago and then attended the Generals' game versus Amesbury on Friday where the team went to 4-1 on the season with a 54-24 win. Both teams took a picture together and the eighth graders got a "Super Fan" T-shirt. DeMarco said there are 11 freshmen involved in the program right now, but …

Shorthanded Girls Basketball Overpowered By Pentucket, Push Toward Possible Postseason Berth

The Cape Ann League-leading Sachems jumped out early and cruised versus the Generals on Friday night.

When you have as many players in street clothes as you do in uniform obviously your prospects aren’t looking their best. And if that wasn’t daunting enough for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School girls basketball team Friday night, the Sachems of Pentucket, in their dark green uniforms, were staring down the home team. Pentucket is atop the Cape Ann League Div. 1 standings with a perfect 10-0 mark. And with the win the Sachems are now 14-4 overall. Despite the immense hurdles the Generals fought to the end in their 67-37 loss. Hamilton-Wenham is now 7-9. It needs to win its final two games of the season – at Ipswich and Amesbury – in order to qualify for the tournament. “We had four starters out with injuries, but I thought we still …
