Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 13

Today is Tuesday, Dec. 13. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Beautiful: Another great day is in store, weatherwise, on Tuesday, with the forecast calling for sun and temperatures in the mid-40s. 2. Winter Sports: The winter sports season gets started on Tuesday. The teams began tryouts and practices the Monday after Thanksgiving and open the regular season on Tuesday with girls’ basketball at home versus North Reading at 6:30 p.m. Boys’ basketball is at North Reading at 7 p.m. The swim teams will be at home at Gordon College at 6:50 p.m. versus Manchester-Essex. 3. Distinguished Citizen: John D. Colucci of Wenham will receive the Boy Scouts Yankee Clipper Council’s Distinguished Citizen award on Tuesday night. The event at …

Boys Basketball Heads Into Season Reloading, Rebuilding

One of two starters for the 2011-12 Generals boys basketball team is hurt and the remaining eight seniors lack varsity experience for the two-time league champions.

After two straight Cape Ann League championships and the No. 1 seed in the Division 3 North sectionals, Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School boys basketball coach Doug Hoak is entering a year of uncertainty. First, he isn’t quite sure what he will have after his two returning starters: Stephen Tam and Jake Lindland. Next, one of the starters, Lindland, has been battling a stress fracture and it is unknown when he will be game ready, if at all. Finally, while he has 10 seniors who will suit up, only the starters come in with any significant varsity experience: one is out for basketball for the first time, two didn’t play basketball last year, one was on JV and one was hurt the past two seasons.
