Free Flu Vaccine to be Available Sunday, Friday Clinics Postponed

A limited supply flu vaccine clinic will be open to public on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Beverly Hospital is running a limited supply flu vaccine clinic on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. The hospital, a member of Lahey Health which has medical offices in Hamilton, said it is offering the clinic in response to the recent rise in the number of influenza cases. The flu clinic will be held in the main entrance of Beverly Hospital. The clinic is open to members of the public ages 18-64. You do not need to be a Beverly Hospital patient to receive a flu vaccine. Following are some helpful tips to consider before attending the flu clinic: Due to a limited supply of flu vaccine, only 200 shots will be administered at the clinic. Flu Cases Up in Hamilton, Vaccine Still Available

Local doctor's offices still have flu vaccine available for what is the worst flu season in at least four years.

Cases of influenza in Hamilton have gone from one case at this time last year to 9 cases this year, according to the town's public health nurse, Kim Paskalis. And at Beverly Hospital, there's been more patients with flu so far this year than at this point of any of the past four flu seasons. The trend in Hamilton mirrors the trend across the state and nationwide. In Boston, for example, Mayor Thomas Menino declared a health emergency on Wednesday due to Boston's flu outbreak. A total of 18 people have died from the flu statewide this year, including a child under 6 in Boston on Friday.
