Five Things to Know on May 17: Rediscover the Discover Hamilton Trail at Its Grand Reopening

Today is Friday, May 17. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Sun: The skies should be dominated by sun again on Friday, with temperatures a bit cooler than Thursday. The thermometer will be in the 60s and the winds will be calmer than Friday too. 2. Birds: Mass Audubon’s Bird-a-thon, a “24-hour bird-spotting challenge,” gets underway on Friday. The event is in its 30th year and is the Audubon’s Society’s single largest annual fundraiser. Last year, 270 species were identified by more than 740 participants on 28 teams and the event raised about $200,000. Five Things to Know on April 9: ‘Water Closet” Author to Present Wonderment of the Natural World

Today is Tuesday, April 9. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Better: Monday was a great day weatherwise, but forecasters are saying that Tuesday may be even better. It may start with a shower but eventually the temperature is expected to get close to 70 degrees. 2. Free Cones: Tuesday is Free Cone Day at Ben and Jerry’s. This year, though, there’s no Ben and Jerry’s scoop shop anywhere nearby since the shop in Salem has closed since last year’s event. 3. ECTA: The Essex County Trail Association holds its spring annual meeting on Tuesday night. It is happening at Gould Barn in Topsfield, starting at 6 p.m. The special guest will be Lily Stewart, 16, a sled dog musher from Ipswich who recentlywon a bronze medal…

Sled Dog Races 'Coming Back Strong'

After a nearly snowless winter forced the sled dog races in Hamilton to be cancelled in 2012, the races plan to return in January 2013.

The New England Sled Dog races plan to return to Hamilton again this winter after being completely cancelled last year because of a nearly snowless winter. “We’re coming back strong,” said Robert Henrici, co-chairman of the races and its non-profit organizer, Friends of New England Sled Dog Club Races. The most important thing right now isn’t snow, Henrici said, but instead that temperatures are cold enough for the ground to freeze solid. Solid ground is needed to use the parking area. And Henrici isn’t worried about whether it will snow or not. There’s "a lot of moving parts” plus “nuts and bolts” to get worked out, he said, and “I can’t worry about the things that I can not control.” What is under the control of organizers is coming …

Today is Friday, July 20. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Relief: Wow, Thursday was a refreshing break from what had been quite a streak of hot and humid weather. And Friday is forecasted to be even cooler, with temperatures topping out around 80 degrees. The sun is also is the forecast straight through Sunday. 2. Teddy Bears and Trains: We’re coming up on two registration deadlines for popular summer events for kids at Wenham Museum – the Teddy Bear Picnic and Toot Toot Thomas. Friday is the deadline to register for the picnic, which happens on Tuesday, July 24 at 11 a.m. It will be “an afternoon of silly songs, teddy bear tales, and games” for ages three and up. Today is Friday, Feb. 3. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Winter: For the first time all week, Friday will actually feel winter-like. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature in the mid-30s. 2. Patton Advisory Committee: Friday is the final day for Hamilton residents to express their interest in being named to the Patton Family Gift Advisory Committee. There are three open at-large spots on the committee and as of earlier this week there were eight residents who were interested. An application should be submitted to Hamilton Town Hall and the Board of Selectmen are scheduled to decide on the at-large committee members on Monday night. 3.
