Today is Friday, June 7. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham: 1. Tropical Storm: The remnants of the first named storm in the Atlantic this hurricane season is moving our way on Friday. There’s a flood watch in place and up to 4 inches of rain are possible from Friday through Saturday. The temperature will be in the 50s and close to 60. 2. Donuts: Friday is National Donut Day. Of course, the largest donut-maker in our area – Dunkin Donuts, with a location in the Shoppes at Hamilton Crossing – is giving away a free donut all day with the purchase of a drink. But what else is going on? If you see to hear about another National Donut Day celebration, let us know by leaving a comment at the bottom of this story. 3. 5th…

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.
Today is Tuesday, June 26. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Regional at 50: Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School is turning 50 years old this year - the first class graduated in 1963. A group is assembling to help honor the occasional all year long. The first meeting of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee is on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Hamilton-Wenham Library. 2. Lyme Disease: Health experts are saying this could be the worst summer yet for Lyme Disease – a warning to walkers, hikers, horseback riders and just about anyone that will be out and about this summer. And, surprisingly, it has little to do with the unusually warm winter we just experienced. Instead, a shift of the acorn and white-footed mouse populations is to blame …

Where's the place in the two towns you get coffee? Vote in our poll and they say why in the comments section. The voting closes on Friday morning.
Coffee is a key part of the morning routine for many people. And we know that making it at home – especially in the era of the K-cup – is a popular alternative to the coffee shop. But pretend your coffee maker isn't working, you're all out of coffee and you need a quick pick-me-up before heading off to work. Last winter, we asked you what your favorite hot beverage was in the two towns and now we want to know where you go to get it. Some of the popular shops include Dunkin Donuts, Grassy Roots and Henderson’s Café. There’s also the coffee at Wenham Tea House, Hamilton Convenience Store and seasonally at the Asbury Grove coffee shop. Did your favorite coffee shop not make the list? Just vote for "other" and let us know in the comments …

This week's Facebook poll showed that Facebook fans of Hamilton-Wenham Patch most likely make coffee at home rather than at any local coffee shop.
Making coffee at home is the best way to grab a Cup O’ Joe in the morning, according to respondents in Hamilton-Wenham Patch’s unscientific Facebook poll. Each Tuesday, Patch posts a local poll question and on Thursday we bring you the results. This week, making coffee at home bested any of the local shops as the choice of respondents in our Facebook poll. 65 percent of the respondents said they make coffee at home. Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks and Front Street Coffeehouse in Salem all received votes. Check back on Hamilton-Wenham Patch and our Facebook page next Tuesday for another poll question. In addition, keep your eye on various future stories on Hamilton-Wenham Patch, where we will be adding poll questions. If you have a suggestion for …

A look back at local news during the past week in Hamilton and Wenham.
The past week in Hamilton and Wenham featured a variety of news stories. Here's a look at five stories that grabbed the attention of Hamilton-Wenham Patch readers. 1. Lawsuit to Challenge State Education Formula A lawsuit challenging the way the state government collects taxes and funds education is beginning to take shape in Hamilton and Wenham. The group putting together the case used “seed money” from the two towns last year to get the state’s top education attorney to review the case and give it his backing. Now the group is looking to add 30 or more towns to the case. 2. Dunkin Donuts to Expand in Plaza The Dunkin Donuts is the Shoppes at Hamilton Crossing got the OK this week to double in size. The Canton-based donuts and coffee …

With changes being made at the Hamilton Shoppes mall, local shops lean towards high end stores.
Well, keep your fingers crossed as the hot weather is taking a break. I suspect it will return shortly. Hey, at least its not snowing. In other events around the towns, a recent story in the newspaper about the Dunkin Donut shop in the mall said that the coffee shop would be doing some enlarging and would be adding more space next door, in the former ice cream shop. In listening to comments from folks around both towns, many recall the mall when it was mostly what would be called "locally owned stores." These days, most of the stores are part of a chain operation, and are what are called "high end" stores. In talking to Carol Mazzetta, who with her husband owned and operated the former Coffee Table restaurant, which is now Dunkin Donuts, …
