Libertarian Daniel Fishman first announced his U.S. Senate bid in early February.
Libertarian Daniel Fishman of Beverly announced Sunday that he is immediately ending his campaign for the open U.S. Senate seat from Massachusetts. Fishman burst onto the politican scene last year as a candidate for the Sixth Congressional District. In that election, Fishman received 197 votes, or 4.5 percent of the vote in Hamilton. In Wenham, Fishman received 93 votes, or 4 percent. Some politiocal observers said that Fishman took votes away from the Republican candidate Richard Tisei, attracting votes from people that were more aligned with Tisei than U.S. Rep. John Tierney, the incumbent Democrat who was narrowly reelected. Fishman said in an announcement Sunday that he will not be submitting signatures to the Secretary of State for …

The U.S. Senate race will have a Democratic primary, and a Libertarian candidate has now announced. But there is still no Republican contender.
With state Republicans still scrambling to find someone to run in the race for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by John Kerry’s appointment to Secretary of State, we do have some other contenders who have jumped into the fray. On Monday, Libertarian Daniel Fishman announced he would attempt to get on the ballot for the U.S. Senate special election. Fishman, who lives in neighboring Beverly, garnered more than 16,000 votes in the 6th Congressional District election last fall finishing third behind Congressman John Tierney (D-Salem) and Republican candidate Richard Tisei. In Hamilton, Fishman received 197 votes, or 4.5 percent. In Wenham, Fishman received 93 votes, or 4 percent. "The thing I became most aware of on the campaign trail is that…

The battle for the 6th District seat is over.
Congressman John Tierney has defeated Republican challenger Richard Tisei in an extremely tight race for Massachusetts 6th District congressional seat. This has been an unusually high-profile congressional race in Massachusetts, which is considered a stronghold for House Democrats. Tierney suffered from the impact of a family scandal involving his wife, her brother and her brother’s illegal offshore gambling business. Tisei, on the other hand, climbed to popularity with his aggressive campaign, his theme of bipartisanship and his years of serving in the state legislature. He out-raised Tierney in campaign donations every quarter. Tisei made Tierney’s family legal scandal a focus of the campaign, calling Tierney’s credibility into question…

There are many issues in the 6th District congressional race. Which one is the big factor for you?
The election is less than two weeks away. In the Massachusetts Sixth District, voters will decide who their next congressman will be. Incumbent Democrat John Tierney is in an intense race against Republican challenger Richard Tisei and Libertarian Daniel Fishman. The campaign has gained national attention. Legal drama involving Tierney's inlaws, Tierney campaign talk of Tisei having radical right-wing connections, and the emergence of Fishman's outside-the-box third party effort have made the race eventful, to say the least. All this, in the midst of a federal budget crisis, Medicare, student loans, abortion, high unemployment and more. We want to know what issue is the biggest deciding factor in your vote in the 6th District race. Discuss…

Libertarian Congressional candidate Daniel Fishman has been left out of a debate, and he's not backing down.
Libertarian Congressional candidate Daniel Fishman has filed a complaint against WCVB with the Federal Elections Commission. WCVB is planning a 6th District congressional candidates' debate on Thursday, and Fishman was not invited because he did not meet their criteria: A candidate must have a certain number of staff members, a daily campaign schedule, communicate on a regular basis with news media, garner at least 10 percent in two recent independent polls and have campaign contributions of at least $50,000. The debate will include U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-Salem) and Republican challenger Richard Tisei, the two major party candidates seeking the seat in the Sixth Congressional District, which includes Hamilton and Wenham. Fishman's …

The Libertarian candidate in the Sixth Congressional District is not invited to attend a debate hosted by channel 5.
For a recent Fox 25 debate, U.S. Rep. John Tierney chose not to attend. But now, another local news station is asking another candidate to do the same. Libertarian candidate for Congress Daniel Fishman says that he doesn't qualify to participate in WCVB's hour-long debate to be held on Oct. 25. "My first reaction was shock," Fishman wrote on his Web site. "At each debate we have put on a strong performance, and at each debate our ranks have swelled. Our campaign has serious momentum." Fishman collected the required signatures by the deadline and will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot in the Sixth Congressional District, which includes Hamilton and Wenham. Only Tierney (D-Salem) and Republican challenge Richard Tisei of Wakefield meet WCVB's …
