Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 26

Today is Monday, Sept. 26. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Weather: A great fall day is on tap for Monday with sun and temperatures in the upper 70s. 2. The Sing Off: A Wenham resident will appear on Monday night’s episode of the new NBC show “The Sing Off.” Cortney Penta, a 2006 Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School graduate and daughter of the owners of Canaan Farms, will appear with her college a capella group Deltones from the University of Delaware. The show airs at 8 p.m. on NBC (channel 7). 3. Library Program Registration: Registration for the fall children’s programs at Hamilton-Wenham Library begins today – in person only and not by e-mail or phone. Wenham's Penta To Be On NBC's 'The Sing-Off'

HWRHS graduate Cortney Penta is a member of the University of Delaware's Deltones and will appear this fall on a new NBC show.

Everyone has heard their mother say, “If your friends jumped off the bridge, would you?” Actually, in some instances it pays to follow your high school friends. Cortney Penta, a 2006 graduate of Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, needed some nudging by her friends, and then the courage of her own, to try out for the Kings of the Beach a cappella group. She finally auditioned, and “the rest is history,” as she said. Penta used that experience to join Deltones, an a cappella group at the University of Delaware. There she made numerous lasting friendships, performed in front of thousands of fans and honed her singing skills. Most recently, however, she and her singing-without-instruments friends competed in NBC’s “The Sing-Off.”  The …
